Oh my goodness. I felt my heart drop a little bit. The fire cases involving the '15 Mustangs seems to be having a lot here recently & talked about now...

Sounds like whatever the dealer was messing with was likely not reinstalled properly and caused the issue. QC issues that cause fires usually would have shown up well before 6000 miles.

Glad you're ok. It is heartbreaking but at the end of the day it's just a thing.

Hope everything goes okay. Well at least you can get another one this time optioned out exactly like you want since you know the mustang much better than when you bought this one.

Just picked my car back up from the dealership for some warranty issues. Driving on the freeway and noticed some white smoke coming from the hood. It progressively got worse so I pulled over into the shoulder. Instinctively thought the car was over heating and it was steam from the radiator. So I proceeded to pop the hood as flames burst from the edges of the hood.

Here's the outcome.

Insurance is going to love me. There were no mods to the car. It had 6k miles.

Sorry! I feel with you.
But keep a clear head! THIS is a CASE for your dealers INSURANCE not yours. Long time ago when I was working as a car mechanic, one of our service parts guys (responsible for switching the engine oil barrel on the pump we got the engine oil on wall in the shop) connected a barrel hydraulic oil instead of engine oil. One customer had the service done and got on the Autobahn. 15 minutes later his engine was destroyed.
My bosses INSURANCE paid for everything.

If you explain what happened to your insurance and they are any good, they will tell you ,that they contact your dealer. I think that would be not the 1st time a dealer (shop) has to cover a customers loses.

So, OP - what was the warranty repair work you had done recently?

Did the Fire Co. Give you any ideas as to the possible cause or source of the fire under the hood?

Where'd the radiator go??? How long did it burn before the Fire Dept got on scene?

I'm sorry to hear/see that man. Seems like it has become a common occurrence for GT's lately...?

Holy shit, that's awful! I'm glad you're okay! What build week was this? Also what warranty issue were you having work done on?

Yea I would think that your insurance company would be talking to the dealership about this one, or you simply have it towed to the dealership for an autopsy and a new car on them. New cars (or any cars) are not supposed to just catch on fire driving down the freeway. Ford should be taking good care of you or risk a HUGE PR nightmare... Where's the Ford customer service forum members? Would love to hear what they would suggest you do.
