So, i've just bought a turbo blanket and 5m of titanium exhaust wrap.

I'm wondering what i should be wrapping with the 5m, and the effects of a turbo blanket or any install guides on either of these?

I'm thinking downpipe to the flexpipe join. Hotside charge pipe, and bov return?

Link to the blanket you ordered?

Be careful, you might melt your exhaust tips from the extra heat:doh:

Has anyone fitted a generic T3 blanket on a stock turbine housing before? I'll be getting one as well once I find out which size fits best.

trippleyelo why don’t you move the information you posted on the first post of the thread you created to this thread? Simply copy-paste and then delete the other thread. It’s good to have everything in one place, as it is a very interesting subject. And you have very interesting information to share.

I am not familiar with turbo blankets and exhaust wraps, so with the purpose of gathering some information for myself as well as other people who might be interested, I wonder if this is a good idea. I mean the turbo can get extremely hot. Therefore keeping the heat inside and around the turbo and not giving it a way out, I would think that this is not good for the long term and flawless function of the unit. In my mind I see turbos getting deformed or maybe some parts within the turbo failing, or even melting, due to extreme heat.

Same with wrapping the downpipe. The gazes stay within the initial part of the exhaust pathway (the downpipe) and this may create overheating issues under the car, where the resonator (or the y-pipe) and the mufflers are located. This could lead to heat-related issues such as overheating of the cabin, possible malfunction of the resonator (if there is one), failure of some electrical systems of the car, even melting or deformation of the exhaust tips.

This is how I see it. My reasoning might be wrong, but I would like to be convinced before messing with my turbo and exhaust system. Or, on the contrary, this might be a good approach for keeping heat away from other vital parts of the engine, therefore improving performance and overall functionality.

equally it stops the heat that's literally burning hot scorching parts of the body, block etc.

also more heat under the cabin and escaping around it, increases charge temps, inlet temps etc.

Less heat in the bay the better if u ask me.

True, but the question is if the turbo can keep operating as expected at these extreme temps. Think of it in a different way: if the turbo cannot cool down efficiently, it will blow hotter air for longer periods of time. Do we know if charge air temperatures will be affected? CATs that are even 1-2 C hotter can negatively influence performance, isn't it?

Don't take me wrong, I am not against turbo blankets and exhaust wraps. As I said I know nothing about them, I am simply thinking out loud for the sake of this discussion.

It's a water / oil cooled turbo aint it? it'll be fine lol as long as after extreme driving I don't shut the car off and I pop hood and let the coolant and oil do it's job it's fine.
