I'm still wondering if we have the correct ratios for the manual. The eSourceBook, page 130, shows the ratios exactly as you have listed them. However, on page 14 there is this,

"[FONT=&quot]Aggressive (short) 1st-gear ratio delivers exhilarating launch feel[/FONT][FONT=&quot]
Two overdrive gear ratios reduce engine rpm at highway speeds to help maximize fuel economy".[/FONT]


I haven't been able to find any additional info. :shrug:

What I don't get is why isn't 10th .5 instead of .63? Why not let it get better mileage at 80mph? The move from .68 to .63 is stupid basically insignificant.
Wind resistance increases with the square of the velocity. The power required to overcome that resistance increases with the CUBE of the velocity.

Example: double the speed means four times the resistance and nine times the power requirement.

Bicycle riders know this. They want wide spaced gears down low but they need close spaced gears up top. You can really feel how much harder it is to pedal as you click up the last couple of gears.

2018 Mustang GT Manual transmission will include 3.55 standard and the 10 speed auto comes with 3.15 with the ability to upgrade to 3.55. Based on numbers I’ve seen the 3.15 have more efficient gear shifting than the 3.55, but only in the Auto. With manual the 3.55 is more efficient. I wonder why the transmission makes the difference.
It is because the internal gear ratios are different between the manual and auto. This was easier to understand when both were six speeds. And the final drive ratio made a difference to fine tune things. (Do want want better acceleration or better mileage?)

The new 10 speed makes this subject almost moot. Now we have shorter low, taller high, and plenty in between.

Not me, I've always liked black wheels even before they were popular. Hated the 90's chrome and billet wheel era.
Me too. But I have to admit that when they're showing up on Camrys the trend is a little played out.

Yeah ... no.
Agree... They were all over SEMA. Not my cup of tea, but I wouldn't throw the keys out if someone wanted to give me that Cuda though. :D
