Hey guys, looking for some input on tires for my auto GT with a whipple. Making 625 rwhp, lowered on eibach pro's and BMR lockout kit. I have 20x10's on the rear. Looking at nitto options.

Looking for good traction from a dig on the STREET. Won't 1/4 mile it...so street performance is key. 3.15 gears so I should get traction easier than a manual. Don't have to DD it, so wet traction isn't a huge factor.

I like the better traction of the NT05R or NT555R, but wonder if the NT05 or NT555 G2 will be better for all around driving. Anyone have experience with any of these tires on a FI auto? Your thoughts?

I had NT05Rs on my car and they hook very well. But any rain on the road and you will not feel safe driving. I've run 555R for years on my Blown Mach 1 and my 13 Roush powered convertible. They hook pretty well once you know the limits of the tire...and you can drive them in the rain and make it home alive. I currently have the 555 G2s on my car and they hook for sh!t. On the street first gear is useless. From a 2nd gear roll they will spin pretty hard and sometime hook up right before the car hits 3rd. Unfortunately, I have 19" PP wheels on my car and Nitto does not offer the 555R so I'm going to have to buy a new 20" wheel set to get into a 555R.

Get the NT05R tire for the rear if you want a 315

but if your using a 10 then the NT555R with the 305 would be better.

toyo proxes r888 are decent at that power level if you still want solid handling. the nt05r is a good choice as well, i have them with 800+rwhp and in the right conditions they hook on a stick car. however, when they are at proper psi, cornering is sketchy. stock converter shouldn't be an issue getting either of them to hook, it doesn't flash high enough. ive never been a fan of the 555r to be honest. the et street ss is another decent option

Anyone know the difference between the MT ET Street R vs the SS? To me looks like the same compound. The SS has more of a street tread and the R is more of the slick. But what I'm really looking for is there a huge difference in traction between the two. The SS has a lot more size options over the R.

Drag radial, unless you just like doing burnouts.

Thats the difference.

Once can be used on the street, the other isnt meant for the street.

Yah I get that...but like I said was wonder if the R actually hooks any better or if there is a softer sidewall.

Since these tires will be put onto a second set of wheels and only driven to the track on dry days I'm leaning towards the R, however, I have to run a 29" tall tire compared to the SS where there is a 26", 27", and 28" option.

OP, you ever decide on a tire?

I'm NA with bolt ons and looking to get new rears soon...don't know if something like the toyo r888 would work much better than the current MT street comps or if i need to move to something like the nt 555r...on 6GR 20x11 rear

R888 are amazing tires, not soo great in rain but good.

If you want a solid tire for off the dig its the 555R, for a competitive cornering aspect the R888

I'm running a nt555r in 305 on a 20x10 wheel. Holds great when it's warm not so good when cold, but nothing does. Highly suggest these tires, plus folks have had them last 10k miles or so and that's way more than you will see with others.
