A few days ago I got an email from an engineer at Holley, asking if I would be willing to loan them my car to develop some exhaust products for the V6 S550. Welll...heck yeah!
I gotta admit that I was more than a little apprehensive about loaning out my brand new 'Stang, but those fears dissipated as soon as I met J.T., the Holley engineer that will be working on my car. Super nice guy, and really knows his stuff! I have no doubt that he will make sure nothing bad happens to my new whip.
This morning, J.T. took me on a tour of their impressive facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where I got to see firsthand what a top-notch outfit they really are. It's so good to see an American company that takes such intense pride in the product they put out; it seems like places like that are few and far between these days. Even better, all of their products are AMERICAN-MADE in one of their two facilities. I'm glad I came on a Saturday; I'm sure this place is a beehive of activity on weekdays!
Here is a list of what they are going to be developing for the V6 as a part of their premium Hooker/Blackheart line:
· Axle back exhaust w/o muffler
· Axle back exhaust w/ muffler
· Cat back exhaust w/o muffler
· Cat back exhaust w/ muffler
· Race ONLY long tube headers
· Race exhaust w/ x-pipe w/o mufflers (to fit with long tube headers)
· Race exhaust w/ x-pipe w/ mufflers (to fit with long tube headers)
· Shorty header
J.T. is going to be sending me regular updates that I will post here...stay tuned!
Their shop is immaculate!
Another engineer was there working on his Cobra - and I thought I had a fun job!!!
Their dyno room. They also make parts for obscure off-brands like Chevrolet...
Everything starts with a 3D model in SolidWorks
They produce beefy jigs and fixtures that securely hold the parts for the best accuracy possible
They have an enormous CNC bender that can do amazing things to tubes without reducing the diameter. Note also the Faro arm (on the right) that they use for taking exact measurements
A line of Hookers awaiting finishing
This place is freakin HUGE
There is still a huge market for carbs...who knew??
