Heck yeah!

Actually, I just got off the phone with Discount Tire. They have the RE-71R's local and an installed price equal to tirerack.com + installation.

BUT....

They said the load rating is no good for the car, and they can't install them.:frusty:

I have pics of the RE71R versus the PZero at the same track, same corner (so probably nearly the same speeds) and the difference in sidewall deflection is amazing. The PZeros look like they're about to rip off the wheel and the RE71Rs are barely deflected at all.

Now, based on my last track day, I wish I had rear tires wider than 275, but F-Street....

I started on 265 square and changed to 285 square mid season. I was going to go with 275, but decided to take a gamble, it paid. Car doesn't feel squirmy, tires don't look pinched. 285s got me 2 second place Pro Solos and a National Championship win. Running with a 5mm spacer on fronts and 19x9 and 19x9.5 OZ wheels. I dismount, rotate and flip often for even wear. The GM performance team was also running 285s on 8.5" wheels. They did extensive testing with various sizes and those were the fastest, even though they don't technically "fit".

Stock offsets of 45 front, 52.5 rear, that was the hardest part of finding an aftermarket wheel, staying in the right range for offset.

Plus, I figure I lost 10-11 pounds of unsprung weight per corner as they are 22lbs each instead of about 33lbs each.

For the guys running 285s, how much camber are you getting in the front?

Also, how much strut clearance is "safe" with a stiff sidewalled tire like the RE71R? With 5mm spacers on stock PP wheels and 2.3 degrees of camber, Im guessing I'll have maybe 2mm of clearance and thats about it.

It's very close, but I never rubbed and I ran several concrete events (more grip and lateral G load). My camber has -2.3 to -2.5. It was so close that's why I put the 5mm spacers on. I went through 2 sets of 285s. Just my personal experience.

TL;DR - 285 RE71Rs do fit fine and clear the struts just about as well as the 275s did.

Now I understand that the tire specs reported section width (from TireRack.com) being +0.5" on the 285 is probably mostly due to the fact that the 275 specs were mounted on a 9.5" wheel and the 285s were on a 10" wheel (1/2" difference). Since mine were both on a 9" wheel, I'm not seeing the same change in section width from going 275-285. The 285s are probably only like 1/10" closer to the strut or something like that when mounted on equal width wheels.
