How does this alter the manual dyno numbers we have seen thus far? Haven't they been running the manual '18's in 5th?
Dyno runs should always be ran in whatever gear is 1:1. So if guys are dynoing 2018s in 5th, they probably don't realize the gear ratios are different in the MT82-D2 and think 5th is still 1:1.

That's what I'm saying. Some if not all of the manual dyno runs for the 18 we have seen so far were ran in 5th I believe, as that was thought to be the 1:1. Now we know, that is not the case. I actually own a dynojet.. :-)

I have a feeling they would notice the insane MPH before assuming they were in the direct drive gear. In 5th(0.80) they would get close to 200mph on the dyno instead of the 155-160ish of 1:1.

They actually hit the speed shut off at 6,500 rpm, similar to what happened with the auto 10 speed cars... Am I the only person that has seen these runs with the manuals?

Here you go... The governor shut the run down at about 6800 rpm, instead of the 7400 rev limit. That lines up with where the speed limiter would kick in with 5th gear. If they pulled in 4th, then they would have been able to pull to redline and not break 155-160 mph depending on tire height when strapped to the dyno.

Actually 6800rpm with a 27.7" rear tire and 3.73 rear gears going through 4th as a 1:1 is just about 150mph. It was a 4th gear dyno run. In 5th, 6800rpm would be ~185mph, well past the speed limiter.

I think it is actually 4.10...I think it's a marketing thing. US gear sold them for a while as 4.10's then FRPP came out and called them 4.09's (made by US Gear).
When did that happen? The 4.10 I had in my Mach1 was from FR, and had 410 in the part number. I assume there was SOME reason in the change. Otherwise it makes no sense to me.

Probably not, I know some guys would run 4.30's. and 4.56's
1st would still run out 1mph more on new transmission
4.09 would be a Good over all gear pretty close to 1 gen mt82 with 3.73s ,, i had a 12 gt PP it was a lot nastier than my 19 Bullitt in Seat of the pants feel .they are probably similar in performance to 6500 rpm but they dont feel the same and the 19 makes steam up to 7500 but its not more fun when neutered by a dead gear spread ,im going 4.09s this sealed the deal for me .

ha, at least I'm not the one necro-threading this...

Drove a '16 GT (thanks @EmCel) and MAN I'm pissed at Ford now over the -D4 ratio change. I thought all you guys complaining were just sore. The original ratios are SO much more fun and engaging. The '16 car moves out smartly.

Calimer should make a gear set for -D4 cars to restore/approximate the earlier ratios. I'm not sure what incantations in the ECU would be needed and to also train the rev-match to compensate correctly. But if I have to give up rev-match I'd do it in a heartbeat. My rev-match is my right foot anyway.

I dearly hope the Mach1's Tremec doesn't have -D4 style ratios.

You don't need Calimer to do anything, the D5 gearset is interchangeable with the D4 one. There's a handful of small changes, but largely the transmission is the same specs.

I think Ford jacked up the ratios for CAFE AOC and MPG. I fixed it by adding a blower. The 18 and up manual cars are dogs. Where is John Coletti when you you need him?

I think Ford upped the ratios to stop as many people from breaking MT-82's, personally. Or hitting crowds. The torque multiplication is lower making the car more docile on the mechanicals as well as inexperienced drivers. Either way, MPG likely had little to do with it.

The literal only thing I like about the tall gears is that you can wind out to redline in 2nd getting on the highway without shifting. That's fun. Other than that, 4.09's are the first real mod I'm going to do.
