We have new pictures and video of a high performance Mustang variant prototype in testing. The prototype is outfitted with nearly all of the traits seen on the upcoming rumored-GT350 expected from the Special Vehicle Team – sporting a bulging hood, revised but covered front fascia, hood-mounted air intake and a functional vent located by the front fenders.

Noticeably missing however, is the distinct quad-exhaust setup seen on the other prototypes. This latest prototype is showing two of the exhaust outlets capped off. Also noticeable is a seemingly different exhaust note (potentially explained by the partially capped exhaust tips) which lacks the deeper throaty burble heard on the SVT prototypes to date. It remains to be seen whether this is just a next-gen GT350 sporting a different exhaust setup or an early prototype of a new S550-based Mustang variant.

Does this sound like a 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder turbo, the rumored flat plane crank V8 engine or something else? Have a look & listen and decide for yourselves.

Hmmm, not sure how I feel about that sound...............I'm guessing this is the FPC we've heard so much about

I agree with the text of the video. It sounds like a modded 4 cylinder to me, but I guess it could be a FPC.

i would think the FPC v8 would still need the dual tips to be able to move all that air its going to be churning through... maybe an SVO variant?

Sure seems like a hi-po 4cyl to me as well. If that's what an FPC sounds like, it's a more dramatic difference than I expected, and it's frankly pretty underwhelming.

Well that obviously isn't the production exhaust, so don't get to worried. However I listened to a couple V8 FPC motors and there is a similarity in tone.

If it is a FPC I would reserve all judgement till it has a different exhaust and passes the camera at 8000 rpms.

The sound almost reminds me of a 350z with that slight rasp. It's not a bad sound, but it's very out of place on a mustang imo. I hope it's an svo or similarly named 4/6 cylinder.

Maybe they're testing a new Mustang SXT with a tow package.

All kidding aside, this doesn't sound like a V8.

I notice JarStang didn't post this in the SVT GT350/Cobra section of the forum. Or am I reading too much into that? :p

Don't know mate. It started like a movie where V8 had a nice picknick with his family but then the FlatPlanceCrank godzilla came up from nowhere and destroyed whole town.

Indeed, it's too soon for the hi-po Mustang to lose that iconic sound
