No it does not upset the car, certainly less than a manual.
On my track day, I tried out everything.
One combo that worked well was
Shift to Sport mode for the twisty sections and back straight.
Downshift with the paddle into corners.
Shift back to D coming out of the lead-on turn before the long main straight.
This way the upshifts are great when you floor it on the main straight. Then switch back to S when braking for turn 1. Then paddles for full manual control. Then back to full auto on the main straight again. Shifts at redline at the perfect time.
