I didn't see any other mention of this article. Seems like the inner workings of the Gen 3 Coyote are quite a bit different.

Was just about to post this as well!! Cool info...makes me leary about getting an '18 with the new tech tho...always kinks to be worked out

it is actually a bigger displacement...I always remember the camaro guys giving us shit for the old 5.0 not being a true "5.0"... Suck it!

Just imagine of there was no gen 2 and the jump in power from gen 1 to gen 3 remained the same. No one would bitch hahaha.

We will see how the FI people respond with the whole DI/PI setup and high compression.
Maybe the new engine is not that great to go FI. That 12:1 compression ratio will definitely limit how much max pressure the engine can take.

Is 12:1 that much harder on the engine vs 11:1?

Something is wrong with the 460 rating.
(5.0/5.2) x 526hp = 505hp

Add in PDI combustion advantages (timing, fuel delivery, etc.), and subtract GT350 head advantages (valves, flow etc)... How the hell is this rated 460?
Maybe 460 to the wheels....

DIPI is a FI dream. Huge advantage to dealing with detonation; cant detonate if fuel is not already in the cylinder. FI will make up for any GT350 head flow advantage so I would expect better than GT350 FI numbers.

..the dual-fuel Gen 3 Coyote under the hood of the 2018 Mustang GT.
!Dual fuel?... as in E85? uhhh, 460 is rear wheel number for sure...

Ford have a tendancy to be conservative in their V8 power Ratings. Here in Australia the recent XR8 & FPV GT was officially rated at 335Kw (449 hp), however was actually around 330Kw at the wheels, and easily increased to 400 with a Flash Tune.

Ford have had a 500+ Hp Naturally Aspirated 5.0 Coyote Crate Engine for years (gen 2). https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-6007-A50XS

Different crank different intake, different redline. If the 5.0 revved to 8000rpm, it would have at least 20% more hp.

Not really though. 100% bone stock engine peaks power around 6,500rpm so you can spin it to a 10,000 and you wouldn't make a single more horsepower.

That has been proven not the case with multiple tunes and power packs.
Factory redline is conservative because Ford does not want your average Joe damaging the engine.
A subtle raise redline to 7500rpm will gain you 25hp easily.

I was talking about stock tune and everything. Of course changing parts and adjusting the tune is going to make more power, but simply revving out an engine and nothing more is not going to get more power if it's past the peak already.

Horsepower is a function of torque and engine speed (rpm). Since the 5.2l revs to the moon and the new 5.0l does not they are not proportionally related.
