I'm looking for some recommendations on speakers to replace the factory Shaker (9 speaker, no sub) speakers. I don't need deafening loudness or earth shaking bass. A little more bass would be nice but I favor clarity and and a 'bright' sound. I expect I will have to add an amp so I'd take a recommendation on that too. As far as budget I'll say <$1,000.

I am all about DIY speakers, but I will keep it more on the simple side. For $1000 You could get into a pretty good system. complete system for $1000.

This list is just for reference
Audio Control LC6i. $100
JL audio JX400 $160
Zenclosure single 12" enclosure $130
JL Audio C2-650 $160
JL Audio 12W0V3-4 $125
Wiring deadening accessories $200

Install $200
That would be a complete system installed for $1075. no it isn't the best components in the world but it would be effective in making the audio much better.

One day I plan to get around to installing:
- Hertz Mille Legend Active 3-way front
- Audison Voce 6.5" rear (just for fill, these will be faded off most of the time unless I just want to get as loud as I can)
- Two Hertz Mille Legend 10" subwoofers in fiberglass boxes on each side
- Audson Bit.1 (initial tune with BitTune)
- Arc Audio amplifiers
- Don't plan to replace any factory wiring unnecessarily - it's fine, add as needed for active.

But... no time.

I'm in the same boat brother
Audiofrog 3 GB 3 way
A trio of Try Technologies billet amps
Eithier a Stereo Integitry HT18 in an IB configuration or 2 Audiofrog GB12" woofers.

It will be built to compete in IASCA.

no problem. I noticed it when I picked up my speakers from crutchfield. It was a recommended add on.

Interesting thread, I dabble in home stereo/theater gear but have zero knowledge of car audio. I have the upgraded factory stereo in a 2017 Premium GT, it's disappointing. Where to start? What's a good foundation to build upon? Nothing extravagant, I have car payments to make..... :)

The best thing about being into home audio is that car audio is 10x cheaper. the best place to start would be to create a plan. decide what you want to accomplish and break it down into steps

i would start with a summing device such as the LC6i that I listed above, a 4 channel amplifier, and a set of components for the front. Are you familiar with DIY speakers by chance?

I have no experience with DIY speakers although I've replaced x-overs in a pair of speakers before. I looked up all the gear you listed above, I'm intrigued. Where in a Mustang would you install the summing device and amp? Is this a job best left to a pro to install?

I got a sweet deal on some JL speakers and had them installed. I could have done it myself but just didn't feel like bothering. The factory tweeters were disconnected, the midranges replaced with coaxials, and the bass drivers were upgraded. All factory wiring, nothing else touched.
My understanding is that the factory drivers are 2 ohm. I put in all 4 ohm equipment. Sometimes when I start the car, the sound sources refuse to turn on. It shows a message that Audio is Off. The dealer ran a diagnostic with the car running and the error occurring. I'm told that there is a code that the radio is shut down because of a fault to ground. They're blaming it on taking out the tweeters. This makes no sense. The tweeters are in parallel with the mids, so there is no open circuit, and increasing the impedance would show the opposite of a short, as the amp would draw less current than expected. I don't play the stereo very loud, so power demand isn't the issue. Anyone have any ideas here?
I had a different problem before where only the radio tuner would play, but they replaced something, I'm not clear on what, and the problem morphed into the new one. The original problem existed before the speakers were upgraded.
Oh, Ecoboost Premium, no subwoofer.

The 3/4" tweeter is held in by a plastic bracket that is plastic-glued in three places. I used a dremel and ground off the glue caps after which the bracket and tweeter popped right out. Next I used sever dabs of hot glue to mount my SEAS Prestige 1" tweeter behind the factory grill. Doing it this way means you can return the car to factory easily and keep your aftermarket gear for you next car... :D
SEAS? - You know what you're doing then... So what other speakers did you put in? I have about $15k invested in audio for my home and listening to the base stereo in my Mustang hurts my ears... but I've never upgraded car audio before.

If you mechanically inclined the install isn't that bad. If you don't have a spare tire you can make a board and mount the amp and summing device down there. running the power wire is probably the worst part, but I believe there is guy on the forum did a how to. Our doors aren't that bad, so of you are detail oriented and mechanically inclined or would be a nice easy Saturday project.

I added kicker tweeters to my car and have tried 2 different crossover set ups on the car and it's still seems like the tweeter is over bearing. I currently have them set at -4db and it seems like a drill in my ears and I can't adjust it out on the factory sound adjustments. Any advice ? I am wishing I never messed with it but I wanted a little more tweeter but definitely not this.

Some folks like to keep their equipment all from the same manufacturer... mine is all over the place

What type of music do you normally listen to?

I'm going to guess you are running the CS tweeters. These are a titanium dome tweeter. Titanium and aluminum tweeters will normally have a much harsher sound compared to a Silk or other fabric dome tweeter. The metal dome tweeters are also more efficient then their silk counterparts, but they also give off a lot of that tisss tisss tisss cymbal sounds.

A fabric tweeter such as silk or paper is normally found in the upper end tweeters.

A tweeter such as

https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/auto-tweeters/tianle-amt40-4-3/4-amt-car-tweeter-pair/

https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.c...ess-oc25sc65-04-1-textile-dome-tweeter-4-ohm/

https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/ring-radiator-tweeters/vifa-xt25sc90-04-ring-radiator-tweeter/

https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.c...erless-ox20sc00-04-19mm-textile-dome-tweeter/

These are all very smooth tweeters, with the ring radiators sounding the best. This is the design that many top tier manufactures use in their upper end products.

Now I am not saying that you can not get a metal dome tweeter to sound great because you can, you just need access to an EQ to make adjustments.

Great taste! I haven't heard the SEAS Prestige 27tffn, but I do won the SI TM65 MKI and MKIIs and I have dual SBP12sin my home theater.

The TM65s are pretty much a sub that will play u[p into mid bass range and do it extremely well, not to mention they will take 500 watts of abuse all day long in a proper install!

The NZ3 is also a great driver Ive heard! From what Im told it was similar to the H-Audio Soul X3 but more detailed and more top end extension!

Your car is going to sound great when you get it installed!

I also picked up the Helix DSP!
