My GT has just let me down.

Manual 16 GTPP.

No gears (failed on a 1-2 shift), totally locked out of the box. Will select with engine off, and will bump down the road if started in gear, but cannot select any gears with engine running.

Likely to be either the release bearing or clutch arm, I suppose.

Only symptoms were a few days ago the clutch was rumbly/juddery a few times when pulling away at low speed.

Then was fine again for a few days.

Then this. Im totally gutted.

Im certain Ford will deny this as a warranty claim, but can anyone tell me if this is a common thing... I need to start building my case already.

PS. On vacation with the car, so in a foreign country trying to get the car fixed at a local Ford dealer. Total nightmare.

The fault is diagnosed.

The clutch material has become detached from the clutch plate.

The thickness is fine (i.e. the clutch was not overly worn), the backing material has simply become detached from the clutch plate itself.

Sound like a construction defect?

The problem is now with the warranty team and im awaiting a decision.

If it's a common thing, is there a TSB or any online material relating to the fault?

Thanks

Is it a dual mass flywheel?

Nope, no TSB. Do a search online and you will find plenty of pics and stories. Hell this site alone has many. Here is my old clutch.

No, they are not a dual mass flywheel.

Mine looked exactly like that as well.

The Procharger and the 7750 rev limiter at the time did not help.

Go with a Mcleod RXT and don't look back. Pretty much what we do on all of our project cars even when they are stock.

Give us a call if there's anything we can help you with.

Thanks!

I put in the RST and it doesn't like road racing use. I am on the second RST and it is no good after one track day, even after a gentle and long break in period. Repeated hard shifts warp the floating plate causing the clutch to drag and cause difficulty in shifting.

Who sold you an RST for track use? Hopefully not us as we know that's not the intended use for an RST.

My stock clutch at 36K looked basically brand new. You guys are really, really hard on these things.
