I spoke to Livernois about getting their tune and they mentioned changing out thermostat for a lower temp unit. Is anyone else installing a new thermostat with their tuners?

They didn't mention one to me when I called in the order. But everything feels fine.

Lund recommends a 170° as well.

We do recommend them for better efficiency, driveability and repeatability of our tune.

Hey Ernest, we were in the middle of testing when you got your tuner and intake. I was not going to tell you about something that I was not 100% edified on.

We are using our tstat on the Whipple build that we ha ve going on right now. It is a guard S550 PP....sooooo sexy!!!!:headbang:

We go down to 160° to avoid the fans from coming on and staying on for longer periods of time than what is considered ideal.

Nope, 2 completely separate systems. Even with the freeze fire temps that we are having here in Michigan right now all of our cars run our 160° tstats!

The 160* Thermostat will help keep the operating temps from 210-215 to 180-195 which have shown to work best on these motors.

Tip: Don't install one unless it's tuned because the FAN settings have to be altered.

Do you have to drain the coolant system on these cars to do a 160 t-stat? Haven't done a t-stat swap on a Mustang yet...

Any install tips or walkthrough would be much appreciated!

No, you do not have to drain it, I would tell you to a tray or your engine cover to catch the run off. Other than that it is super straight forward.
