Steering Malfunction

Well I've had my GT 4 weeks, only done 600 miles and it's dead. Got an error message about steering malfunction 3x Monday night. WFH Tue and Wed so didn't drive it and happened again Thur. Took it to Ford today who rung to say diagnostics have error list as long as their arm and car cut out on them during a drive. They'll need to keep it over the weekend. So Im waiting for a call for a hire car as currently stranded at work...

The error didn't appear to effect steering other than the driver mode toggles stopped functioning as did the hill start support. Has anyone else had experience with this error?

Can you reject the car? or is it too late now? they should have your spec in stock so could swap you into another new one.. You could be waiting a while if parts are required.

Probably dodgy wiring or one of the ECU's are fooked.

What's worse is they told me I had a hire car by 1730 still no call, and it was then too late so was stranded at work and had to plead for a lift home. They're calling me tomorrow

Abysmal service over the weekend, didnt get a hire car until 4pm Saturday - raging.

Rung today and told me they've no idea what's wrong and still running tests :(

I had to be awkward and complain before Ford would give me a courtesy car. Needless to say Ford tried calling me after submitting the customer survey lol

Indeed, mines been rock solid though touchwood, but definitely worries me a little when I see posts like this.

Finally got the car back today - they couldn't tell me what caused it as they didn't know. They suspect a wiring issue which was fixed inadvertently while checking all the connections. Waiting for the customer relations team to contact me about a complaint - not about the car failing but rather the debacle of the hire car!

Could have predicted that. How long did it take to come back again? Make sure they take it for a long enough test drive to sort it.

Suggest they check the routing of the wiring loom where it runs under the FEAD belt before it goes to the steering rack. We had a 2017 car in recently and the loom wasn't correctly clipped and the belt was touching the loom protection- not causing a problem but it would have done in time

Got it back Wed PM, error occurred Friday AM after ~85miles.

So quite a while really in terms of a tech taking it for a test drive. Do you know if they actually did anything last time? or do you think they switched it on, car worked fine, job done?
