Is it normal for the shifter to be notchy? I have 400 miles on the car and it was the smoothest shifter I ever felt until yesterday. Notchy out of nowhere.

Mine gets smoother the more miles I put on it. Was pretty notchy when new.

This.

Mine was notchy when new and when the car wasn't warmed up (but overall a tad notchy). Now well past 5000 miles, it has a tiny bit of notchiness the first couple shifts but it's butter smooth when warmed up. I've been really, really happy with it lately.

Just out of curiosity, define 'notchy.' I am wondering if you are getting more comfortable with the car and maybe starting to rush the shifts.

they are gonna get notchy. your best bet would be to buy a barton shifter and avoid putting more miles on stock components that suck.
