With the little bit of info out there for the 2018 5.0 upgrades, I'm guessing that they're going to have the GT350 intake, TB, and CAI now.
I doubt the intake manifolds will interchange between these generations due to the direct injector clearance required under the intake manifold.

According to this basic calculator the compression ratio bump alone would bring HP to 444. We will see what the other improvements bring.

Right but everyone is forgetting it ALL depends on what stock tune Ford uses regardless of hardware.

By the past oh 20 years, Ford never ever maxes out the engine power and aftermarket tunes open it up more; 10% or more. Just because with 12:1 and DI it CAN reach say 475 with this setup doesnt mean Ford will give it all to the public and "de-tune" it a bit.

I would guess 455-460hp to compete with the SS with a lot more torque than 400 ft lbs. Torque is the big area the Coyote is lacking right now and would really make the car quicker.

Ford likely will not put it at 475+ as that is getting close to the GT350. They likely also want to leave a little meat on the bone to bump it up again at the 2020 refresh too as I doubt the 5.0 will change again drastically in 2 years.

I thought the DI injectors were in the cylinder head.

If not the exact intake manifold, I'm sure it will probably be similar to the GT350 manifold.

For the love of whatever the hell you all worship, STOP saying GT500 until Ford says it. Do you work for Ford? Do you have empirical evidence that a GT500 is coming? Didn't think so either.
This post earned you a 'THANKS'!!

I wonder if that new dual clutch and flywheel setup will be backwards compatible?

They are, but they are next to the intake ports underneath the intake manifold.
I see now. Had no idea that were packing all that in under the intake.Shows clearly at about 3:15 in the following video for the F150: [ame=""]

I'm hoping Ford will provide a complete technical break down nearer production. Perhaps when the first press test drives are scheduled.

I'm expecting good, but modest, gains in terms of both HP/TQ and MPG. This revised Coyote will surely be going into the S650, so they'll leave some improvements on the table for '21MY.

:)
I have a feeling they will use an all new engine in the s650, by that time the coyote will be 10 yes old and time to retire. I am betting this update will be the last one for this engine.

For reference, from wiki "the Lexus RC-F has a 5.0l all-alloy quad-cam, 32-valve V8 with Yamaha-designed high-flow cylinder heads, titanium inlet valves, high-lift camshafts and dual-length intake. It has D4-S gasoline port and direct injection, Dual VVT-i with electric VVT-iE inlet camshaft actuation. In the RC-F the compression ratio was increased to 12.3:1 and output 467 hp; 391 lb·ft)".

More than 455 and there is not going to be a GT500 for this chassis.
How sure are you? Let's make a bet. If there isn't a GT500 released then you get to test prototype parts on my car.. but if there is, I get free BMR LCAs. Haha

A three MPG increase would be huge for those of us that drive 18k+ miles a year.

I currently average 19 MPG with my driving style. It that were to increase to 22 while driving 18k a year, I would save about 120 gallons a year. This wouldn't make or break my bank, but it would slightly offset the cost of purchasing an '18 if someone were on the fence.
Wonder what the 10 speed will be good for fuel mileage wise.

Haha, calm down keyboard warrior. I don't, but my close friend had owned every new platform of the GT500/350 since 08 and bought everyone without paying ADM, so he knows a few people. What do you think of this photo?
