I'm currently running Michelin Super Sports in the rear, 295/35/20.

Even with a few bolt-ons and a tune, I break traction in first and second under hard acceleration.

My Procharger goes on in a few days and with 600+hp, they clearly aren't going to cope.

Can anyone recommend from personal experience a street tire that is going to hook up pretty well? (Not dragging the car, so no slicks)

I'm thinking:

315/30/20 Nitto NT-05
315/30/20 Nitto NT-05R
315/30/20 Toyo R888

??? Any other suggestions welcomed!

Anyone chime in?

Thanks :)

How wide is your rim? Bulging fatter tire on a narrow rim does little good, there is an optimal width for the whee width. Youre better off with a stickier compound. The problem then is if there is no sticky compound in your optimal width range. Then ur stuck shopping for rims. If you have like 20x10s just run 285 squared on a sticky compound, LOTs of choices in that size.

I'm running 20x9 front, 20x10 rear.

So at 20x10 the 315s will physically fit but u wont get the full contact patch. The optimal range on 10" is 255 to 285. Imagine the tire like half of a baloon that ur inflating. Once youre pushing far past the rim you're sorta riding on the bulge.

I have nt05r 305/35/19 on a 10 in wheel, they hook good when the temp is at 60 or above. When it is cooler its harder to get traction but thats with any drag radial. The MT drag radials are the best out of all the drag radials but are a little expensive. If u want to get any kind of traction on the street u will need a drag radial with 600 plus whp.

Keep in mind that the MTs will not last nearly as long. The NT05R niche is that they hook well, provide better durability and have a stiffer sidewall that will keep you alive in turns. NT05R and N555Rs are probably the best Daily Driver Radials you can get. But they will not be the best in straight line traction. That's why I have a second set of wheels with the MT ET Street S/S on them. They are much stickier but i would NEVER drive around on those every day. They wouldn't last a few 1000 miles on normal driving. My 555rs however will last me several thousand miles and dozens of track passes. They don't like to hook well in 2nd gear on the street with a 700+WHP car but top of second into 3rd and I'm good. But i've pulled 1.59 60's at the track which is damn good.

For the street, it's simple. You want the fattest tire you can fit on there for straight line traction. Sure, you can run a super sticky 275 but it's not going to last you long. Whereas you can run a 305/315 in a more durable tire and get the same grip and more mileage out of it. I'll be running a NT05R in 315/35/20 this year. I just won't drive the car in the rain like i do on the 555Rs.

555R > NT05R for daily driver hands down. They last longer and provide similar amounts of dry grip and 10x the wet traction as the water actually gets evacuated, unlike the NT05R. If they made a 19" 555R I would have nothing else for the street. Dont even bother with non drag radials.

I run 305's NT555R's on the rear and I have pretty good traction.

I run NT555R's in 305 on a 20x10. If they are warm all is good, cold and all bets are off on gaining any traction. No way any tire holds first gear on the street though.

Take it with a grain of salt, since my 16 is stock, and my experience is with a previous platform (2003 GT with a Novi2000 making about 500 rwhp and a lot of suspension).

I ran a 17x10.5 rear with 315/35 Nitto 555r (which run a bit narrow). I got great treadwear out of them and they hooked decently on the street and track both. Best 60 was a 1.68 or 1.69 iirc, but usually in the low 1.8 range. If I'd clean them off on the street I could get them to hook pretty well on untreated pavement. Conversely, I also ran the Mickey Thompson radials too, and they flat hooked on any surface and pretty much torched my Centerforce clutch they hooked so hard. They suuucked with treadwear though.

Once you get over around 550rwhp it can get awful tricky hooking on the street. So decide if you want more traction or better treadwear and go from there.
