470, it might be wishful thinking but from a marketing perspective it sure does fit!

Keep in mind that they really highlighted more *torque*..which the Coyote really needs.

It's better to have 455 HP and 425 TQ (just a spitball guess) than to have 475 HP but only 410 TQ.
This!!

Given the Camaro's weight advantage, unless Ford has something else up their sleeves (maybe the 10-speed auto really will make the thing fly) and/or can keep a not-insignificant price advantage even with all these upgrades, I would think they would need at least about 465.

Too many magazine racers out there who only care about 0-60 times and 1/4 times for Ford to ignore.

Personally, if it makes anything over 450 hp while also having a 7400 RPM redline *AND* better gas mileage, I'll be pleased. And all of that seems to be essentially a guarantee at this point.

I would be more interested in what we get at 5280rpm

I'm going with 470/455. Good bump above the Camaro and within spiting distance of the Scat Pack/SRT's 485 which should be good enough to make them sweat going against a GT PP.
This- If you read the easter eggs from the picture:

RPM's is at 4700 roughly - 470 HP
In 4th Gear at 55 MPH - 455 TQ

Torque is where the 5.0 will benefit most. Torque gets you off the line, horsepower keeps you going.

For example, look at the GT350, great for road racing coming off corners and accelerating once moving with high revving. Underwhelming from a stop even with 526hp because it only has 29 ft lbs more than the 5.0

The 5.0 would do well with 455-470hp and 430-450 ft lbs.

Good and valid points. However, I'm a bit skeptical if Ford surpasses the TQ numbers on a GT, any higher than what the Voodoo 5.2L is currently producing. Don't get me wrong..... it would be nice, but somehow, I just can't see it.

I think this is a bit of an oversimplification of the torque vs power issue.

Actual peak torque numbers don't matter all that much. What really matters, in addition to horsepower, is the torque curve. A really high peak torque high in the rev band, and not much down low, won't do you much good off the line, for example. The torque curve tells you when and where the car will push the hardest.

But the actual peak number doesn't mean too much. You can always make up for lack of raw torque at the crank with shorter gearing. But you can't make up for lack of horsepower... without adding more horsepower.

The GT350 is quite a bit faster than the GT in all acceleration tests I've seen. It might not feel quite as jumpy off the line as one would expect as a result of the fact that first gear is a decent bit longer (~3.2 to the GT's ~3.6, IIRC)...

The Porsche 911GT3RS probably has the highest torque per liter of any normally aspirated production engine. 339 lb ft from 4 liters or 84.75 lb ft per liter. This equates to 424 lb ft for a 5.0 and is probably the upper limit for what we could see from the 2018.
Ferrari 458 beats the Porsche st 398 lb ft from 4.5. Equates to 442 lb ft from 5.0

Still very interesting as to how people are voting in this poll. So far the results from the poll have not changed from the first day. I thought I would see more vote for higher horsepower levels as the days passed. How soon before Ford releases the official horsepower levels for the Mustang GT ?

the compression bump alone is only worth 2.8- 3% which puts you around 447 to 450 horsepower. with the extra injectors and perhaps a revised intake manifold for-higher revving in stock forum I highly doubt they'll go over 460 horsepower.

I'm guessing it will make at least 475 horsepower.

Look at the 2011-2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8. It too had a switch from port injection to direct injection paired with an increase in the compression ratio.
3.8 PI(2011 Genesis) 290hp/264tq vs 3.8 DI (2012 Genesis) 333hp/291tq

Remember the horsepower/torque bump is also proportional to the engine size. The Genesis made 43 more horsepower and 27 more torque on a smaller engine. The 2018 Coyote also has larger valves and a better flowing head. Because of that, this version of the Coyote will make no less than 475 horsepower and 425 torque unless they decide to underrate it. It's not wildly impossible that it could make horsepower in the 480s. Many of you are guessing waay too low.

Would love to see if it truly has larger valves on the new revised heads. As an option to upgrade to vs the gt350 CNC ported heads are expensive and require cams or modified lifter/ rollers
