So... I've been wondering, how do you guys justify what you spend to mod your Mustang?

I'm all for personalizing and making your car stand out and such. But being someone who's unable to disassemble the engine and reassemble it again, I don't think I'll be keeping my car for more than maybe 7-10 years.

I feel like if I spend anymore money on my car, I won't get to use it to it's full potential by the time I get rid of the car.

That being said I've already spent about 11k on mods/labor, which was about 25% of the purchase price of my car.

I see some guys with mods that cost more than the price of their car. Do you guys keep the cars for long? Is it due to sponsors?

If I was just using my car on the street, I would have done lowering springs and wheels, maybe even not wheels, and that's it. Since I use my car on road courses... more parts acquired to make the car align to what I need it to be to feel comfortable and perform. The stock suspension had far too little feedback, too much body roll, ineffective dampers, and unbelievable wheel hop.

I needed a car with some power because my 2014 Nissan Sentra was incredibly slow and driving uphill was a battle. I'll keep this V6 for as long as I can, or maybe until the S650.

I normally only keep a car 2 years. Ive modded this car though because i absolutely love her. Unless there is a noticeable power increase or they make the 18my look even better then i will prolly keep this car for a bit
It also helps i bought her with 9 miles so other then that ive put every mile on her. As long as I still look back at her when i get out or happy to see her when i get home from work she is a keeper:headbang:

Me crazy, and I can't help myself
My justification is that i don't smoke, i don't do drugs, i don't really drink, i hate playing golf and don't go to the casino, the money i spend on my car is my escape, and how i enjoy my time. The moment you try to justify it financially i think most times you are just kidding yourself. One thing that is important to me is that the mods i do can be returned easily to stock. Whenever i sell my car i pull off all these "extras" and sell them separately, sure i don't get my money back but the return is still better than including with the sale of the car.

I'm about the same. Don't smoke, rarely drink, don't eat out (cook at home), don't do major travelling, etc. Everyone wastes money one way or another if they have it. If modding a car is fun to you, then you don't need to justify it. At the end of the day, it's another hobby and, you'll have something to show for the money spent.

As expensive as cars can be as a hobby, you can equally spend a lot more in other hobbies.

I don't need justifying. I just have to have it.

I am not sure you really can justify the money that most of us spend modding our cars. Maybe if it is track focused or something but, I think for must of us it really doesn't matter. I just enjoy driving it and these mods help me do that even more.

I justify it by being able to afford it and only living once :)
