So I was playing around under my car today and I found the gold areas of the Ford Racing 1/2 shafts appear to be coated with oil. There is also a slight spray or splatter of oil on everything above the this part of the axles from rotation. I am not an expert in these but I don't think this is normal what do you think?

I did my best to get lighting and a good picture so I hope you guys see what I'm seeing

You can even see a drip of oil has gathered

Are you sure it's not coming from the pumpkin? I've never seen fluid come from halfshafts. Only grease.

There is no oil coming from the seals where the axles go into it. The oil and residue I found is coming from the CV joints on the 1/2 shafts themselves. There are two CV joints per axle and both on each are wet with oil/residue.

The first and last picture are the outer joints on the outside of the rear knuckles. The center picture is the joint next to the pumpkin

That's pretty unusual. Maybe call up G-force and see if their tech center can help you out. I just can't imagine there being fluid in the CV joints.

Maybe Gforce Engineering can chime in?

I probably have the first generation batch and maybe need an upgraded pair?

I don't think I even have 1,000 miles on these....

Even if yours do happen to have an issue, it's still better than receiving axles and having to check the torque specs before installing... lol. Come on, G-force/Ford Performance!

Do this:

Get some Carb cleaner or Brake cleaner and liberally spray down the axles AND the seals where the axles protrude into for the rear diff. Wipe everything DRY. Go for a decent drive and then look under there again and see if you can determine where the seepage is really coming from.

It can't be determined from the axles already being saturated (at least not from a "picture" vantage point).

My guess is the rear diff seals are seeping gear fluid and the saturation is finding the path of least resistance - getting onto the end of the axle that protrudes through the seal and under rotation is being spattered everywhere.

Half shafts don't have "any fluid" in them, they contain grease and bearings. The boots contain the thick grease.

I will do this. I thought the same thing but as I mentioned the diff seals are dry and the ONLY place there is oil is on the 2 gold colored parts of both CV joints on each shaft. The actual axle is dry from diff to first CV and from first CV to the second CV on both shafts.

Just an update.

G force has exceptional customer service. I have received a personal phone call every step of the way.

There was a cap seal that didn't have quite enough sealant applied and it was leaking by a little. All resolved and they ship back today after only arriving to them yesterday!

Some of the best customer service I have ever received

Great news Jmeo.

Most of my customers who I have sent to them have thanked me for doing so.

This is why we have been using them for many years now, for GM and Ford applications.

Was this differential fluid making its way through some sort of channel in the stub, or is this fluid something that is packed in the CV joints during assembly?

Thanks

OK cool that makes sense. I wasnt aware they put such a thin fluid in the CVs, but I also had not seen any openings in the stubs for diff fluid to get through so I was confused.

Thanks

I was confused as well and the guys from G Force found this to be the case. Mine were from the first batch as well. They were great and took care of me.
