The SN-95 version of the Mach 1 had engine performance to go along with the styling. Shaker scoop aside, the cams and intake changes on the 4.6L DOHC Modular really made that car fun. It felt stout because of the meatier torque in the low-to-mid range part of the RPM band. The official Ford rating was lower than what people were seeing on dynos. That engine felt good and stout around town for its displacement (Terminator engine notwithstanding).
My sentiments exactly. I have little to compare it to since it was my only other Mustang, but I loved driving my '03 Mach. That engine liked to rev and LOVED the spray.

Cascadia 302 ,thanks for the info about the Boss 429 being a 385 series engine. I had assumed the Boss 429 was an engine series by itself. I correct my statement by saying a non Boss 429 with a solid lifter cam could be ordered as a Cobrajet or SCJ in any Mustang in 1971. The last year a 429 was available in a Mustang.

The 429 was going to be an option for 1970 too, but was canceled at the last minute.

Yeah it would have been nice to have that engine in the 70 mustang. I settled for the 429 '70 Torino Cobra, had the (only ford) factory Rochester spread bore carb to boot.

Years ago I had a 1970 Mach1 and a 1973 Mach1. Both small block cars. Both had much nicer interior than the standard Mustang. The exterior had a look of performance for the day. Today's Mach1 could easily be a premium package car with maybe some special wheels and performance hints on outside. Maybe a deeper splitter and rear spoiler.

My premium EB is everything and more than my Mach1s. Love them all. I've added some minor things to my 2015, but I'd love to add a tasteful Mach1 stripe or badges.

I had a '70 Torino Cobra as well. Dark green, shaker, 4-speed, in dash tach, console, comfort weave seats, manual steering & brakes. It could squeal the tires when passing at highway speeds. Fun car. Sold my 1972 454 Chevelle SS to buy it.
