What would this car be worth unrestored?

If that is a real GT500KR, unrestored, i could see it going for $20k, maybe more. The serial numbers from Shelby Automotive is still there so it lends some legitimacy to the car. That is a VERY rare car. Fully restored, i could see it go for $200k, maybe more. But it wouldn't be cheap. The interior looks pretty shot, the body needs a ton of work, and that motor has to be rebuilt. That is an exceptional find.

Why would they even let it get to this?

Perhaps the owner passed away and the family forgot about it.

Auction Price: $95,000 - $105,000

issue at hand is that the gt500kr was essentially just another fastback Mustang with a 428, some custom Shelby suspension bits, and an appearance package. it wasn't like the boss 429 required extensive modifications and used and additionally extremely rare one off motor. a well rested or, or better yet an original unrestored boss 429 will go for $200,000

I have s real z28. Couldn't touch a real boss 302 for the money, comparatively. Let alone a Shelby or gt500 or KR!

Unrestored boss 429 is upwards of a million dollar car.

I believe it was owned by an old man that passed away and the wife just left it there until someone found it.
