Tonight was a great night for a cruise around town. At a stoplight, a couple of high school kids pulled up next to me in a Prius, blasted off when the light turned green and didn't back off until they probably hit 65 or 70 (in a 35 zone). I guess they must have won the race, because the police officer waiting half a mile down the road at the next light pulled them over and gave the driver a certificate of achievement. (I'm guessing it didn't say "First Place.")

BTW, my Valentine One was barking long before the Prius even pulled up next to me. ;)

Apparently, they've been watching the latest series of Pirus commercials on TV & believe they are for real or they are just incredibly dumb or they wanted to see/hear a GT350 run.

I get it a lot with the local kids pulling up in ragged out old 'stangs, Camaro's, Honda's what ever - typically painted flat/primered, fart can exhaust, lowered with too big wheels & tires, blowing oil smoke out the tailpipe. They gotta know they don't really stand a chance ..............

Instant satisfaction. By the way, how do you like your V1?

Why would they even try in a Prius? I don't even....my wife would be shaking her head at fellow Prius drivers doing that stuff. Good for you though to just let it go rather than egg them on!

Shift you didn't ask me but I'll chime in. I use my V1 for long road trips mostly. Driving around town you get a lot of interference plus I don't really drive fast on surface roads. On the highway I like to drive more spirited and I think that's where it shines. It's saved me a few times with speed traps on the way to Vegas. I'm not sure how well it would do with laser. I've heard once you've been alerted it's basically too late.

Thanks for your input. Laser guns are instant on, meaning you have no idea it's being used until it's actually used. That's why even with a radar detector, you can't move as quick as you would like if you're the only one of the road. If youve got a few cars ahead, a cop might laser the car ahead of you, alerting you and you'd slow down.

I did see a radar review site that mentioned the V1 gives a good bit more false alerts than the comparable escort ones, which might be the interference you are talking about.

I've had a V1 since the second year they were out, and have found it to be a very worthy companion - no tickets since I started using it. (Where's that piece of wood to knock on?) The arrows make it magical, but now that the patent on that technology has expired, I'm anxious to see what comes on the market from now on. The bigger problem than false alarms around town is false alarms from active cruise control, emergency braking systems, etc., on other cars that use radar and/or laser technologies to keep little old ladies from running into each other. There are hackers that modify the V1 and transmit the display to your cell phone to kill these false alarms, but the last thing I want is another piece of equipment to mess with - especially since I already use my cell phone for Waze.

Nothing like that yet. Just people sticking their heads out windows with cell phones and others saying... "let's hear it!". There have been a handful of ludacris Teslas, but I'm not stupid.

Your response, and anyone elses in the bay area is relevant to me. It'll be my first car that will be "loud" both in looks and sound, and wanted to know the locals reaction to it. Definitely don't want any ridiculous 4cyl cars revving their fart cans at me.

yep i notice on the highway cars close up the gaps more not to let me in
I've learned to play coy, and when I see an opening I signal and immediately turn in.

Can't give those inconsiderate, on-the-verge-of-roadrage driver a chance to be a douche, because they don't like to disappoint.

For several years, I've noticed that prius drivers love to get on it. . It's amazing to me how often I get buzzed by someone who it seems purchased a car specifically to get good gas mileage and then sabotages said mileage in a vain attempt to run a 16 second quarter mile...............wtf???

Care to share your stories/experiences? Most of my cars in the past have been 4 bangers. I knew what it was though, an economy car. I didn't try to make it something it's not. I don't think I'll ever understand the logic behind putting an exhaust on engines that sound like crap to begin with, and then amplifying the terrible sound with fart cans.
