I have the opportunity to have a local speed shop install some mods on my 5.0. They are willing to R/D new headers, exhaust, and install a CAI with a SCT tune.

I have seen some issues with some members when it comes to tuning the new S550? Also, it seems that some of the mods have minimal gains.

Question: Is it worth the time and investment to mod my 5.0 with custom headers, full exhaust,CAI with a SCT tune?

Anyone have data with an estimate on what these mods will gain me in HP/TQ?

Depends how much of an investment really. I'd go for it if you are not too mechnically inclined. I might have missed where people had tuning issues, but make sure they are a reputable shop.

I would do appearance first, have some fun with that. Then exhaust, and save for supercharger :D

Can prob get about 25-30hp bump from tune and intake. Full exhaust might get you 20 at best. Exhaust is really just for sound.

Thanks for your reply!

Since they are using my 5.0 for R/D my investment would be minimal. They are a reputable shop that I work on everything from WSX to Lambos.

Definitely mod it.

However if you ever plan on going F/I you could reconsider the headers if you decide to go turbo.

I'd definitely do exhaust, intake and tune. Especially if it's a great price. :)

I'm not planning on racing it or upgrading to a S/C or Turbo in the future. Just want to get some more HP/TQ. I know a exhaust will just add a better tone with minimal HP gains.

Aside from the headers everything else is a cheap/easy install. Personally I wouldnt want my new mustang to be some shops R and D guinea pig.

I wouldn't want my car being used as a test bed for tunes or anything like that but if they are just testing fitment of the headers and then using known tunes for the motor I'd be a little more receptive.

I guess my major hold up are the headers.... Not sure if it worth the net gains.

CAI, tune and exhaust were always on my MOD list! :headbang:

Yes, the Mods you are talking about are well worth it and they way to go.

Now what type of Headers and CAI are you talking about ?

Generally these mods with the right parts will make 430RWHP to 450RWHP.

Love the Black emblems on your car and the tinted lights.

Working on a larger Black 5.0 emblem for the rear medallion.

Any suggestions for exterior badging ideas ?

Your car looks great and I have the Premium Magnetic model and will be doing the same exterior mods.

Do you have any other exterior mods that I can't see ?

Joe

Define full exhaust?

Please don't tell me you think headers are just for sound.
