Popping, squeaking, wheels wobbling, vibrations and many other symptoms can occur when the rear axle to spindle/knuckle retaining nuts lose their clamping force.

I am seeing this almost on a weekly basis at this point, both with stock and aftermarket set-ups.

I have found that installing a new nut and torquing them to 150ftlbs + 1/8 turn with Red Loctite has been the best for myself and our project cars.

I recommend marking the nut to the shaft so you can inspect them occasionally to ensure the nut does not back-off of the threads.

Had a clicking sound at low speeds ~10-15mph and the rear axle nuts weren't torqued properly.

Just ordered some new fastners. Thanks for the tip. I put new halfshafts in last year and reused the stock hardware. Did not put many miles on the car before winter, so hopefully I have avoided some drama.

Red because it's got a higher temp rating and on a nut that big it wont be tough to get it off if needed.

So I replaced the LR hub on mine last night and the factory nut was fairly easy to remove. Had some weird popping when turning left and starting to roll out from a stop. The hub/bearing didnt feel crunchy but there was grease all over my spindle and the bearing smelled like a burnt diff.

Just wanted to throw this out in public for people to see.

Seems as if several people are already providing some feedback on this very thing.

I figured it should be posted, since I seriously deal with this issue every week.

I had one loosen on my '04 cobra. It was noticeable the moment it happened. As soon as I accelerated it felt like I had a rear tire going down.
