2017 Performance pack - $2995
2018 Performance pack - $3995

Difference, performance rear wing vs spoiler delete and available on automatic cars.

So did Ford look at the $6500 1LE package and say, hey we can charge more?

Problem is that package has a lot more in it.
Add $1695 MagneRide Damping
$895 Active Exhaust
$1595 Recaros
And you have a still not competitive $8180 Performance Pack plus car (is this what the PP2 is going to be?). Even here you really need to spend another $2000-4000 because you can't get the MagneRide or Active Exhaust without a $2000 interior upgrade, and the old cloth Recaro option seems to have gone away requiring a Premium trim car to get Recaro seats.

And this more expensive upgrade is still short (compared to a 1LE):
An inch to inch and a half wider wheels & tires.
2 piece rotors, and 4 piston rear Brembos
Track ready transmission & diff coolers
Head Up display
Suede wrapped flat bottom steering wheel
And a probably superior Electronic Limited Slip.

So the basic PP needs to go back to under $3000 and the PP2 needs to add a lot of content at a reasonable price to compete with a 1LE.

While I agree that the PP shouldn't have gotten $1000 more expensive, the damper tuning and spring/bar rates will be far more in line with the Camaro SS than the current GT PP. The base GT will have a suspension equivalent to the current GT PP.

Per the press releases thus far, the base GT will have near PP suspension.

The new PP will have new springs and dampeners, sway bars, chassis stiffening, etc.

There is more in the package, and it costs more.. Sounds about right to me.

That's not true. It shouldn't cost more because going to different shock valving and slightly larger bars/higher rate springs costs VERY little, like a few bucks per car. Remember, they're replacing one for another as-built, not buying some, throwing those away, and putting different ones on. There is no reason for such a high increase. I'd have understood if they had made it $3095 or even $3195.

If the base GT now effectively has the 15-17 Performance Pack the new one should have included the magnetic ride.

It has the 15-17 PP suspension, but it still doesn't get the following:

6 Piston Brembo fronts & 15" rotors
PP strut tower & K-braces (unconfirmed...this may be standard)
Larger Radiator
PP splitter & belly pan with brake ducting
3.73 axle with Torsen diff
Lower/rear front control arm is a bushing inner point vs. bearing

All of that besides the chassis bracing and control arms is pretty expensive to add afterwards, but with the price increase of the 18+ package, there is a compelling argument to forgo it and get a lot of it after, especially considering lots of people are going to lower their cars and switch up springs/bars anyway.

I would like to hear more about the "chassis stiffening".

It's expected it will similar to the 15-17 in this regard.

The PP has the following 'stiffening' items:
Strut tower brace
Strut towers to cowl K-brace
Outer cowl to dash brace
Lower K-brace (under engine)
Bearing supported lower/rear front control arms
Stiffer front upper strut mount bushings

New springs don't cost significantly more than old springs. It's not like it's an upgrade and you have to throw the old ones away, you just tell your supplier you want spec X instead of spec Y. Heck, an entire Ford Performance handling pack is what, $1300 bucks? Add a K-brace and tower brace for another couple hundred. More importantly, the difference between same brand 3/4 and 1" sway bars is maybe $20. Maybe there really is more to the '18 PP, but it's hard to imagine what they did with that extra $1000 other than better tires.

Not worth a $4k premium over the cost of the parts already included in a base GT.

I'm a big Mustang guy, yet I was considering a deal on a Camaro SS 1LE last night and decided to wait for Mustang pricing. Looks like I can get the better deal with some rebates right now on the Camaro, instead of waiting 6 months for a car no one has driven. Which may or may not top the 1LE in performance.

A 1LE is about 45k while a comparably equipped Mustang is going to be $50k. The 1LE will likely hold its value better as well because it is a somewhat limited run car.

Seriously considering the Camaro SS 1LE now. And I was so excited for the '18 Mustang :frusty:

Oh hey and dont forget that the new GT PP tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. They probably cost an extra $100 for all 4 over the Pirellis. "So we better round that up to $1000 just to be safe.":ford:
