So, let's get a definitive on this. Is an oil separator needed on a 2017 GT Mustang?

In my research, there seems to be mixed answers.
Thanks

it has an engine!
Need is subjective. The air that is recirculated has oil mist and lowers your octane rating. You're more prone to knocking and not getting 100% out of it.

Upr, Bob's or Elite are the only three that stop all oil. The others work but don't catch everything and leak out back into the line when full.

Sorry, new to all this. Are you saying is it GOOD to have, or not?

I don't think it's necessary, but got one of Bob's units because it looks cool.

How much oil does it actually catch when you drain it at your oil change interval?
From what I've seen.. very little (less then a ounce on a NA engine). So it makes
me wonder if that little oil amount hurts anything.

I can see a need for forced induction engines.. as blowby pressure is greatly increased
forcing oil through the PCV system.

If it was absolutely needed, it would have been standard equipment from Ford.

But they're not that expensive for peace of mind. I've got the Ford Performance one.

They have epa to meet. That's why it didn't come with it
Well they could have the captured oil drain back to the oil pan, hence no EPA concerns. There are only a few manufactures who use catch cans.. almost all are forced induction.

IMO, if your drive the car hard and push the rpm, they can be a very good idea. Keeps oil vapors from lowering your octane and gunking up your intake, which obviously has other added benefits. They are probably more beneficial for boosted motors, but I think NA can also see the value. If you drive in the winter, make sure you check it often. They can pick up a lot of condensation depending on the design/install, and you have to watch them freezing up.

That's not how a pcv and egr system works. You know that right? I guess I'm confused why you're trying to inform a master tech of 3+ decades

Yah I know how the positive crankcase ventilation and exhaust gas re-circulation works, thanks.
