I know theres a million threads on oil, but i was just hoping to get a couple educated recommendations on my specific setup.

I have pretty much full bolt-ons. E85, with a Boss manifold running up to 8k rpm. It's not a DD. I dont take it to the track, I pretty much just beat the shit out of it on the street on sundays. It will most likely be garaged all winter once it starts raining too. I'm just thinking that the standard 5w-20 mobil one might not be cutting it. Maybe a 10w-30?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

10w30 amsoil, redline or pennzoil ultra hyper gets my vote. Especially since youre using e85.
awesome, thats what I was leaning towards. Thank you.

No problem. Pennzoil is the best off the shelf choice. I personally will be running amsoil 10w30 myself once i get my s550. Better oils are a lot more resistant to fuel dilution.

Since you're going to be racing on the street (is that legal?), you might want to consider this oil: https://www.motul.com/system/produc...ginal/300V High RPM 0W-20 (GB).pdf?1329125318.

The group V ester base stock will be more resistant to fuel dilution and you'll be running a viscosity the engine was designed for.

Or, as suggested above, you might try Pennzoil Platinum Ultra, labelled "With Pure Plus Technology", API SN 5w20. I think it even meets Ford's 945A spec for the Coyote. So no warranty problems, at least from the oil standpoint. It is a group III base stock made from natural gas. Pennzoil claims it performs like a group IV PAO base stock. It should be readily available at any AutoZone, etc.

Or, you could call the Ford Racing Tech Line at 800-367-3788 and see what they say.

I might add that I have no direct experience in what you're asking about, so I don't know if this info qualifies as an "educated recommendation."

Who cares if its legal? 10w30 is perfectly fine for this engine. 5w20 is not sufficient protection for someone that drives this car as its intended. They're plenty of uoas that prove that. 10w40 is better suited for people that road course these cars. 5w20 is not the only weight that can be safely used.

How many UOA's have you seen on the new s550's?

I wouldn't contradict your advice to the OP.

I certainly don't want to give advice to anyone that could harm their car. I've only been on this forum since March, so maybe I missed the uoa's that show 5w20 doesn't protect when the Mustang is driven as intended.

I like to drive my Mustang GT PP hard (probably illegally, even) whenever I can, so I'd be interested in seeing the uoa's you mention. Anyone?

I fancy myself as reasonably able to interpret uoa's. I've been doing them for roughly 30 years on my cars (BMWs and VWs mostly including some M cars that were tracked, no Mustangs yet) and always like to read the uoa's of other folks when they're posted. I would love to get into a discussion on interpreting uoa's.

OP: here is a thread that might be of interest to you, at least on the subject of viscosity for your Ford - http://www.allfordmustangs.com/foru...-5w20-oil-2015-mustang-gt-v8.html#post7163073.

Be sure to check out the link at the bottom of the thread for a link to the Ford SVT forum that shows a ton of uoa's (used oil analysis) on Mustangs.

FWIW when i first got my Mustang I asked both the Ford Racing Tech Line and a rep from Joe Gibbs oils if 5w20 was ok for a tracked 2015 Mustang GT with a stock Coyote engine. The guy at Ford Racing said it would be no problem using 5w20. The emails between myself and Joe Gibbs Driven oils are as follows:

"Richard,

Thanks for the email. If Ford specs 5W-20, then stay with a 5W-20. The [Joe Gibbs 5w20] can handle the rigors of track day use without generating the extra oil pressure and oil temp that a 5W-50 would produce.

Comment: I've got a 2015 Mustang GT 5.0 with Performance Pkg. Ford specs 5w20 oil for this car. If I do high performance driving schools at tracks, what would be your recommendation for oil vis? Your 5w20 or the 5w50? The car by the way is bone stock."

OP: since your engine is modded, I would still recommend that you contact the Ford Racing Tech Line to get their advice. Its been many years since I was a track rat, but my own experience has been that no matter how hard you think you whip your car on the street, it doesn't even come close to the rigors of a weekend at the track.

Hope this helps.

How am i contradictory? 10w40 is great for people that road course. He isnt doing that. Hes using it as weekend warrior for the street. Which 10w30 is ideal. Svt has a coyote uoa thread. Might even be a sticky. Unleashed gives tons of oil advice if i recall. I cant personally share any uoas from the s550s local because they arent mine and arent on this forum.

The fords 20 weight once put through those paces breaks down. Even fords 5w50 isnt very good. Its not even a 50 weight after 1500ish miles. While some 5w20s are a lot more resistant to this 10w30 is a much better choice for anyone that beats on the car. For someone that drives the car conservative and doesnt really beat on it, id agree 5w20 is better. I have seen plenty of local uoas from s197s showing fords 5w20 was not suited for their driving.
