I have 751rwhp/593 ft/lbs of torque, and currently have a McLoed RST clutch that's starting to chatter going into first gear. So either the flywheel is glazed, or the clutch, or both. Either way, when the time comes, would you recommend upgrading to a McLoed RXT? Or should I suck it up and do the Tremec Magnum XL swap? I'm trying not to spend a ton, but if the MT-82 is going to die soon, I'd rather not waste my money on an expensive clutch for the weaker trans.

I don't plan on adding any more power, it's pretty good the way it is. Should I just fix the clutch, or do the swap? Thoughts?

Well....you are in the same hp/tq range as me. I broke two MT82s with the RXT,,,did the 6060 swap and love it.

RXT will destroy your tranny , clutch chatter could be the nature of McLeod I've heard a lot of guys having chatter. If you swap to the magnum it wouldn't be a bad idea but you'd probably want to change the rear gears, gears in tranny are a lot different so the car will feel slower

This. Either stay with the RST, or go T56.

I heard bad things about RSTs and stock MT82s.

Won't matter if he goes the RXT route. Ben will even tell you his Stage 2 won't hold up to an RXT. He was the one that convinced me to go the TR6060 route. Wish I would have gone this way after the first one went.

i guess the question is at what level is the MT-82 no longer viable? Last i heard the mantic clutch was working well in the MT-82

I'm thinking about upgrading my transmission to either the tr6060 or the magnum xl. I just put 3.31 rear gears in and would rather not have to swap them again. Would either of these trans work well with 3.31s on a whipple car?

Maybe on a whipple...with my PC car the factory 3.73's barely did it for me. Currently doing the 4.09 swap.

Agreed. I know of at least one board member who broke a stage 2 MT-82 with an RXT

I broke a stage 2 mt 82. I have 4.09 rear with my 6060 whipple car. 6th gear would be totally useless with anything less. I am running a 29" rear tire though.

Is the 6060 swap the way to go? I was looking at the Magnum XL kit from JPC, but not sure if the 6060 is a better choice?

I would have thought that 3.73 would be perfect for boost and your power. Whats your complaint?
Think it has a lot to do with my combo.
The RXT isn't the easiest thing to slip...so taking off in regular driving conditions can cause some stuttering.
The P1 doesn't really start to hit its stride until 4500-5000 this will get me there sooner.
6th is worthless maybe I can use it now

All the guys I have talked with that have done the MT82 swap then gone with 4.09's rave about it...so we will see.

interesting

I was wanting the 2.97 ratio stg2 6060 with 3.73 for the CPR turbo kit with a mantic or Rxt clutch. I thought the 4.09 might go through the gears too quick with over 1000whp.
