Just got a quote for £450 (any many others upwards) from compare the market - it was for a 2.3 auto 2015 RHD mustang. Couldn't choose convertible, and some of the other options were a bit random (interior trim "Ghia" anyone?) but looks like the different insurers are starting to add them now...

10,000 miles, £50 voluntary, £100 compulsory excess.

Sorry for putting this one back on prices stevec [emoji6]

Hello, I hope you enjoy the forum, I cetainly do.

But please can everyone stop taking about insurance. I am trying my best not to think about taxing, insuring and fueling this car and you guys keep reminding me!!

Seriously through. I really have taken a different approach to this car. I have always considered running costs and everything with may cars but with this one, I have an 'its costs what it costs' attitude. heck, I have never even considered putting a deposit down a on a car before that I didnt know when it was coming, let alone not know how much it would cost!

Whilst renewing my wifes car insurance on Friday i had a quick conversation with the broker about the Mustang. He said that it definitely isn't on any of the insurance databases they have access to ... interestingly he said it might not ever hit the databases.
Gave me the example of a Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio Verde, that came out last year and still doesnt have a listing in the insurance world.
If that happens he said they'll look at loadings for the European model and apply their loadings based on those.
This could turn out to be a whole lot more expensive than first thought!

It's already on admirals database. Also I know my ford dealer said about ford insurance for them as an option.

They have a random entry for a 2300cc 2 door 2015, however i've spoken to them about it and it isn't the new model. Its the same as the rest of the insurance companies where they have models like Mustang Ghia listed.

Hmm, just questioned the Meerkat and the Alfa is on his database. Simples ;)

This is going to be an officially imported Ford, and US models are on the database from previous years so i'm staying positive.

Even tho it shows RHD config? It won't be long till it's updated and appears on all databases

Dealer told me to base it on a 2.7 Porsche boxter for a rough idea anyway.

Quite right. There is no difference between this and any other Ford, Audi, Merc etc UK model, none of which are made in the UK and some of which (Merc GL) are made in the States. It's a UK model. As an OP said, as a fall back Ford has it's own insurance programme so the others will compete. And Ford would look seriously dumb (and dumber) if they wouldn't insure one of their own models or priced it out of the market.

BMW point blank would not cover me on their own R1200GS because I work as a cameraman.

Ie I'm in entertainment.

As to the Mustang, I hope that the insurance companies take into account that enthusiasts that have waited up to 2 years for the car of their dreams are not going to be driving like major dicks and will probably sleep in their cars to stop thefts.

Chaps,

If you check out the Mustang Owners Club of Great Britain forums

http://www.mocgb.net

There is a fairly lengthy thread regarding UK insurance. A lot of people seem to use specialist companies and one broker that comes up frequently which is A Plan. I am very keen to see how you get on with insuring your cars for use in Blighty because I am currently trying to get hold of a GT350 which will be brought back to the UK with me in 2017. I have a nasty feeling I may have to sell the house/wife/both to insure it...

Hope the link is of use.

Kev.

I'm not sure those discussions are relevant as those concern the historical position where Mustang's were US imports. Going forward we will be buying UK spec cars and I would expect all UK insurance companies to offer cover in the usual ways.

If you live in the countryside and only use your US import as a toy and even better it's a classic, then those specialist insurance companies are great.

Useless for a newer import that I wanted to use as a daily. In fact, when I had my Mercury the only company that would offer me cover out of the 30 odd that I rang were Adrian Flux and it wasn't cheap, considering the car was worth only £4k.

I'm just hoping that they will be sensible with the new UK GT.

After all, I can get decent quotes on a brand new BMW M3 and that has similar power and costs twice as much, plus it's a thief magnet.

A plan quoted us around £1100 for the GT.Got basic quotes from compare the market, but I don't think they were specific to the S550.They ranged from £300 -£800 .

That seems ridiculous when I can insure a new M3 for £600 especially as that would be parked on the street in London and used for business.
