You're probably looking for a similar solution to me. Bit louder than stock but also nice, pronounced, burble with lots of character but no rasp. Definitely any kind of X-pipe is out of the question. An H-pipe, maybe, but could still be too loud or introduce too many harsh tones. My next step is to take the car to a reputable custom exhaust shop and investigate a mud-muffler system if it can be fitted in place of the resonator. Would need to be chambered mufflers (such as flowmaster 40/44s) and one for each bank to provide enough attenuation, but I'm doubtful that would fit. Failing that, I think it's gonna be a steeda axleback and stick with factory resonator. There's only one video of this system on YouTube with decent sound quality. It sounds similar to factory setup, a little louder and more emphasis on the lower frequencies. Not EXACTLY what I'm after but as close as I've heard from an off-the-shelf solution.

I dismissed the Steeda on being hardly any change in sound for a lot of money, I think I should have gone for my first choice, Borla S type, but couldn't justify the price.

I'm on that too, went for Vents, came out with vents... Maybe harder to sell me stuff as i've already got most things
But did you still have them by the time you got home?:lol:

Don't know too much about Dreamscience's stuff... but do like the sound of this one (Apache non-resonated). One of the best deep growly sounding exhausts I've heard on the Mustang. On the Wolverhampton meet video its featured from 15:43 - 16:06.

That exhaust in real life is so deep and has an angry rumble . Only reason i never went for that 1 was it is far too loud for my neighbourhood. i went for the more quieter resonated chinook which is also a very deep rumble but just not as loud .

The Apache from Dream Science is insane. A bit too loud for me.
Their Chinook is as good but not as loud.

Could this just be my imagination?
Since replacing the centre resonator with an x-pipe but keeping the back boxes, I'm sure my throttle response is more sluggish, almost like driving in wet mode. Could it be that the x-pipe has introduced a restriction on the engine which wasn't there with the factory resonator? Would an H-pipe resolve NB this situation as it is essentially two straight through pipes with an opportunity for cross over but no restriction to gas flow.
I'm wishing I hadn't tinkered with it now and considering reinstalling the resonator.
Thanks for your views.

Centre sections can indeed have a dramatic effect on low/mid range torque. I cannot speak for the Mustang but on my M3 when I ran a performance cat back which was straight mid-section pipe and free flowing back box the car made like 5HP more but under 3000rpm there was 50lb/ft missing.

As such I put stock centre section back on (h-pipe) which gave me the lost torque back, shortly afterwards stock exhaust went back on too as in a stripped car a loud exhaust was just boomy and headache inducing.

Not sure with the Mustang, but maybe your X-pipe is poorly designed, maybe try a Mishimoto H pipe. I think one of the vendors here has surplus stock and wants them gone cheap.

Tricky one that. Given that it was out of a full Borla system and you had to add piping to fit it maybe the position of the X is different to where Borla intended and you have some strange pulses going on. Are the pipe sizes the same as standard or did Mike have to put a step up/down in? Or maybe you just got used to the performance/sound  I've no idea if the resonator delete pipes are the same as the pipes they sell in a full system.
I've always felt that when manufacturers spend a fortune developing products it's wise to go with the intended application. The only way to tell really is to do some reference runs and then swap back to stock and do the same (but give the car a chance to 'learn' the new set up).

As you say, the pipe was from a Borla cat back sport and actually came complete with the pipes and just needed to be welded to the back box pipes. I have to accelerate more, ie depress the pedal more to get a response, then after a short delay the auto box changes down and we surge ahead. Before, the pedal response was more instant. Even when stationary the engine doesn't seem to rev as freely. Thanks for your comments though, they are very useful.

Ah there is your problem, you have an auto which has an engine/gear box tune expecting certain flow characteristics.

Your exhaust mod will have changed this and as such the gearbox is not seeing what it expects, causing you some lag/delay.

Unless your going to tune the car, you'd be better off either going back to stock or fitting a full system, plenty here have full catbacks with automatics with no issue.

Don't forget that Autos have an Adaptive Learning feature. If the battery has been disconnected or you've been driving like Miss Daisy then the tranny has to relearn its strategy for more 'spirited' use.

I have a Ford Performance resonator delete X-pipe on my GT Auto and I don't think it provides a noticeable performance improvement other than the louder exhaust sound that I bought it for. Certainly no decrease in performance. Personally I find Auto-'S' and Mode 'Sport+' to be my favourite combination for faster shifting, quick throttle response and those lovely perfectly executed throttle-blip down-shifts - every time!
