Hi brains trust

So I have had my ford dealer fit a set of BMR vertical links to the pony car. This has introduced negative camber into the rear end. I queried this with the dealership because this effect wasn't talked about anywhere. I have been told that the BMR products are approximately 5mm longer and hence the reason for the negative camber.

I'm keen to do something about this because there is increased road noise at high speed with the inner edge of the tire tread now in contact with the road. Ford tell me that this will reduce as the tires wear but I am not super happy with that as a solution. I don't want to put back the old vertical links because the launch is brilliant and the car is awesome with the mods.

BMR sell a set of rear camber links that tackles negative camber should I be looking at a set of those. Should I get another wheel alignment elsewhere first?

Cheers

Hi Paul,

Have a look at this thread: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66676&highlight=rear+camber

Post #9 has a PDF file of a good diagram showing the adjustment.

Premier Automotive clocked the bushes in my Mustang and I showed them this adjustment when they did my alignment.

There might be enough adjustment to get your rear camber to speck.

Hope this helps.

PM me if you need more info.

Cheers Ben.

No probs.
When you've got it sorted, should meet up for a cruise. :ford:

So just an update on this one. I contacted BMR in the US. Kelly from BMR is suggesting that it has more to do with the alignment done on the car at the dealership and that this kind of issue is seen where the car alignment was not properly completed or where an alignment was not done post fitment.

So armed with the PDF supplied on this forum I'm heading off next week to the folks at JAX in Mitchell who have been looking after my tires and alignment for other cars for years and see what gives.

Thanks to to BMR for their very rapid response to my question. I hasten to add that this is very minor as an issue and the change in the car with the BMR components is really very good.

It certainly doesn't fill you with confidence in dealers workshops when your " Ford Specialist " tells you one thing, and a local Tyre shop fixes the problem without an issue

No indeed. The problem I think is that dealerships with a few exceptions are not specialists in what they sell. It also gets compounded by the small numbers of mustangs in Australia at the moment and therefore the lack of experience in working on these cars. I was also lucky in that the JAX guys had now worked on a few and so had some experience (besides being good guys). :)

I can't see for the life of me how the 5mm change in vertical link length would make any real change to your camber. Yes, the toe and camber on these cars are interlinked to some degree, but a 5mm change in the length of your vert Lin,s suddenly causing camber issues seems a bit weird...

To Burkeys point I have had the vertical links and lockout kit installed for over a year and there has been absolutely no issue with camber or toe.

And I agree with you. When I started to think about it the assertion by ford didn't make sense. I spoke to BMR and they were very good enough to reply within 12 hours from contacting them in the US. They hadn't seen this condition either and there was no mention of it in their forum thread (or anywhere else for that matter).

Which was when I got the alignment redone as noted elsewhere in this thread. Just brilliant and super happy with the components now that the rear of the car is properly aligned. Thanks to JAX in Mitchell Canberra and to BMR in the states:cheers:
