Apparently, the Mustang has scored a dismal 2 stars in the NCAP safety test.   The news is strictly classified and won't be released until very late tonight, but was leaked early, by mistake, by certain sources. From what I hear, the Mustang performed quite poorly in the offset front impact test.

If this is true, this is truly disastrous news for all of us owners. :( I guess we'll have to wait until tonight and see...

Yeah I'd like to see this from an official source, 2 stars is pretty hopeless, id be very surprised if this was true

This 2016 test shows the Mustang performing less well than the Camaro, but better than the Challenger in an offset test:

Still gets an acceptable offset rating though: http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/ford/mustang-2-door-coupe/2017

I guess the ANCAP two star rating might refer to that particular test, not the car's overall rating. Let's wait and see the official release, after all it could turn out to be like another '2018 yellow Mustang' leak...

Either way, I don't think any results will dent sales though, pun intended.

The test referenced by friend of Dorothy above is the small overlap rigid barrier crash test. This is not performed in the Australian market, it is currently only tested in the US market.

I am not buying into this comment at all, however if the mustang suffered at all in its ANCAP rating it would only be for its lack of advanced safety features (automatic braking, lane keep assist, etc), not it's crash performance.

To put it into reference the old Great Wall Utes still achieved 3 star ancap even without abs and asbestos drum liners.

I work where they perform the ANCAP static head restraint test assessment and can confirm that the Mustang has not been tested either physically or from data calculations based on the U.S. tests. ANCAP are still waiting for Ford to come to the party with supplying vehicles for testing. This is a leak of bs! Trolling at its finest :)

Really, 2 star's who cares if its not 5 star... and i'm a Paraplegic from a Car Accident

If you have an major accident, the odds of injuries are by variables outside of your control...5 star doesn't mean you will live or come out the other side with out major injures.

It's not a family vehicle, its a muscle car.

I will still keep mine and drive mine happily regardless.
If shit happens, then no amount of stars will save you.
Just drive normally and be vigilant on the surroundings and conditions.

The testing done on the US shows sufficient protection from different angles anyways.

Who actually checked the safety rating or news before ordering and taking delivery?

I can see Camry buyers doing so.. but not performance/enthusiast buyers.

If I ever crash, if the rear has not come all the way to the front - it doesn't count!
