331gears

Well went to do my gears today and as usual something had to go wrong.After me and my buddy got the diff out of the car and all disassembled we were getting ready to put the ring gear on the torsion.Well guess what,did not fit,vendor sent me gears for the 2014 8.8 and they are different from the irs super 8.8.Cars at my work on a lift and probably wont get the right gears until Wednesday.This sucks as now my car will have the shop lift tied up.Anyone doing the ring and pinion swap their is a difference between the 14 and 15 ring and pinion gear.

What part numbers are the correct gear set

M-4209-88331a,dont forget the a,thats what happen to me,they shipped them out without the a and thats not for the irs super 8.8.

I'm looking at doing the same, but have a shop install the gear. I've never done ring and pinion, and don't have the right tools for the job.

Yea need a dial indicator,inch lb torque wrench,caliper and a press.Im picking up a complete diff tomorrow because my car cant tie up the shop lift until i get the right gears.I will be selling my torsion rear with 331 gears,i can install them and sell it complete or sell it with all the new parts and buyer can install the gears.Either way it will be up for sale becaue i have to have my car back together tomorrow.

Depends also on the diff. 3.15 diffs can't fit any other gear set in them. Best and easy way for the 15+ cars is to just buy a complete diff and swap them.

Yea but it also only cost $190 dollars for a set of gears,and a couple of hours of work your done.Cheapest you will find a good used diff is about $500.Plus my orginal goal was i wanted to keep my torsion,contrary to what guys say on the forums it is a better rear then the trac loc.

If the torsion breaks is this a stronger option?

You can get any gear diff from LKQ for 300+100 shipping. I just bought 2 of them both low mileage no issues. A 3.31 and a Torsen 3.73

Their website isn't working for a search, or is terrible. There are a couple locations they have within a short drive for me. Have you seen any 3.31 torsens available through them? My main thing for getting the gears swapped locally is to be able to keep the torsen.

Edit: Just got the search page to work. Not finding any diff assemblies for a 2015. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? lol.

Part of the issue is that parts suppliers often don't know there is a difference between the Ford 8.8" and the Ford Super 8.8".

It's like when people think and Olds 350 is just another GM smallblock 350.

Excatly i used Car Part .Com and found my 331 today.Their are quite a few of them around.Me and my buddie Ken drove a good ways to get mine because i had to have it today.Most places have them for $480.I will be selling my torsion and my steel housing.I think u have to put it in car -part.com.I was put in a shitty situation because i was sold the wrong gears.

search eBay mustang and then the gear you want.

mustang 3.55, 3.73, etc. LKQ ebay is its on operation that is separate from the main locations located in cities.

If u want to keep your torsion rear,u are going to have to change the ring and pinion gears.Thats the only way to get 331,s and keep the torsion over the trac loc.
