Hi Guys,
I have a 2016 GT MT (non PP) and am thinking about doing the Ford Power Pack 2 tune as my first mod to increase HP. I currently drive mine 8 months out of the year (in storage now) and do both in town, hwy and spirited twisty roads. I have not tracked the car or done auto cross, but would like to try both to see if it was something I could get into.
A couple of things I am concerned about:
1. I read a review of the Power Pack 2 where they stated the increased throttle response makes it uncomfortable as a daily driver around town. One writer mentioned it has a tendency to want to lurch more from a stop. Most of the time I have it in Sport mode, but there are a few times where it is nice to drop it into normal so I can be a little more nimble around town. With this mod would normal turn into sport and sport be even more agressive?
2. Should I be looking at other options (ie: CAI and Tune from Bama, etc..) that would be better for a DD
3. I am not sure if I will go the route of a super charger or turbo, but if I were to go that route.. will these mods still stay in place or would I be replacing these items. I know this sounds crazy but would a super charger be more "civilized" in daily driving vs some of the throttle increase tunes?
4. I think the "no lift shift" would be a cool enhancement, not sure if that is available with other perf mods.. it is with this one...

Thanks for the input as always...

I was wondering about this as well, as I am considering the Power Pack 3.

I think you might want to wait till someone actually gets a PP2 since right now the only ones that have driven one will either be a ford engineer/test driver or a journalist.

The names are close. Power vs Performance and both ending in Pack or Package. I feel like it should be called the GT, GT Performance 1, and Performance 2. The "PP" is making it a little hard for people to know which is being referred to. GT, GTP1 and GTP2 would be easier. Or make the option you buy with the car the Package and the Ford Performance add-on an Upgrade. So it is PP1, PP2 and PU1, PU2, PU3. The Handling Upgrade would then be HU1, HU2.

There are no issues with daily driving. If you're light with your foot you'll barely notice the difference. If you mash down hard, it's gonna go. But, I daily drive mine, and absolutely no issues at all.

I chose FPPP2 because of the warranty. You'll have more personalization with a different tuner (assuming you don't use a "standard" tune from those mentioned.)

4. I think the "no lift shift" would be a cool enhancement, not sure if that is available with other perf mods.. it is with this one...
It's fine. It feels awkward to me after driving for 30 years the "regular" way. I think it'd take some practice to be efficient. In daily driving you'll never have a need, or want, for it. But, it's there.

I have the PP2, automatic though.

As JJ said, you barely notice the difference unless you're really giving it the beans. The extra power is nice but you get used to it, and it's not that much, and the transmission doesn't behave much differnetly than stock. It's a nice upgrade for the price but don't think for a minute that it transforms the car (as some will say in this forum). It's just, pretty nice.

This is my only car, which I drive everyday, and the PP2 hasn't really changed the dynamics of my commute. It's just a bit more fun when I go for a real drive.

awesome, thanks. for your input!. I am also thinking primarily of the warranty retention as well..Love the grabber blue by the way!

My only issue is with the "No Lift Shift" feature included in that tune. It sounds like it gets in the way and generally pisses people off. For people that have the power pack, how annoying is the NLS?

Thanks for the input.. I guess i was not looking or expecting Super Charger like differences.. but what i was hoping for was a little bit more air intake which would bump the exhaust and engine note up a bit.. I went with the corsa sport catback exhaust which I love but at times its just a hair too quiet... I also notice a bit of lag when launching at times from a dead stop.... just looking to "wake" the car up a little without spending big $ on a whipple or roush system.. Do you think it is worth the $800-$900 though? If it's not noticeable and enjoyable not sure if I want to do it... maybe spend my money on other mods??

For the price I would say it does what you're looking for, maybe not as much on the sound part as you'll want but overall yeah I would say it wakes the car up a bit. The only way to do more to the car for less is to go aftermarket tune. If oyu're okay fighting warranty battles than sure go ahead, otherwise you have about 1 real option.

Also Levittown Ford has way better pricing. Right now it's just a tick over $600, and I'm pretty sure there is a discount code for forum members.

I've had the PP2 since April. The tune that has been available since June or so is great around town, the low-end torque increase really makes it more fun, and I don't notice any more of a tendency to lurch than if you make a bad shift with the stock tune. If you bought the PP2 now I'm sure that would be the tune you'd download. The original tune was not pleasant to drive around town, as the revs either hung or continued to increase while upshifting, leading to lurching if you were too fast letting out the clutch. That was all fixed with the revised tune.

You can still shift "normally"; You don't notice it at all. If you don't use NLS, it's like it's not even there.

You should def get the PP2. The increased throttle response is part of the fun. It does make it "touchier" and you have to be more mindful in stoplight situations, start and go traffic, etc. But it's well worth it. Not a big deal. It just feels like a tuned engine now, which it is.

You could probably get a bit more power and of course increased customization from other aftermarket tunes, but the Ford Performance one is good and you can trust it's not over extending your powertrain. Also warranty retention is nice.

If you go forced induction later, I do not think any of the parts will carry over. The intake tube definitely not. But you may be able to keep the larger throttle body if you're just bolting on a centrifugal like a Procharger. Not sure though.

No lift shift is fun as ****, but only comes in to play when you're redlining, or close to it. It has no effect on normal or spirited driving unless you wanted it to, which you wouldn't.

I know the other threads are ridiculously long now, hard to comb through all of that for these intro questions. Long story short, the PP2 really is awesome in my opinion, really wakes the car up. The extra power and low torque is great but not world changing. Also makes an aftermarket exhaust sound even better.
