Hey everyone, I designed my own slim keyfob. Standard keyfob goes from 20mm to 8mm!
I just wanted to share it here if anyone whats to download it and try it out.
It's for an automatic 2016 GT (5 button), the buttons also work.

Download here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2638706

I soldered the wires but it may not be necessary. It's still a work in progress.

Future updates to come:
  • M3 Screw through hole in PCB
  • Pocket clip
  • Keyring
  • Smoother angles

If you guys have any suggestions looking forward to hearing them!

Nice! It never even occurred to me to do this. Not only is this smaller but I can also disable the panic button.

Thanks

Awesome, thanks for this. What program did you use to design this? I recommend adding a chamfer to the edges to make it less sharp in the hand and incorporate a hole in the design to accommodate a keyring

Edit: duh, I see you're already taking that into consideration.

This is awesome! I've been waiting for someone to design a replacement FOB similar in size to a credit card that could be kept in ones wallet. The Volvo S60R crew had a design such as this in the works when I sold mine.

Awesome, thanks for this. What program did you use to design this?
I just used a free online CAD program called TinkerCAD. It's alright. not the best one I've ever used but it's pretty good for people starting out with CAD.

so do you actually have buttons on the 3d printed one?
The shell is thinner around the buttons so it's easier to press down on the button location. However, you do have to remember where the button are. I might design some icons later to identify the buttons but it's not to hard to remember which does which.

Lastly I just updated the file over the weekend to now include an M3 Screw. I will be using this screw to design some attachments for the key FOB.

Very cool project! For months I've been kicking around the idea of a 3D printed tesla/hotwheels style key fob (like the early color swatches). I actually had a friend of mine 3D scan a scale model GT, but the data file was basically an amorphous blob.

I did eventually get my hands on a full 2015 Mustang CAD file, but I haven't tried to modify it yet for printing.

Before you added the screw, what held the PCB in place?

Ford changed the design for the 2018-2020 key fobs. The circuit board is bigger and it uses one CR2450 battery instead of the two smaller ones. If anyone has a 3D printable case for this design, please let me know.
