I had no idea that the Whipple tune has a speed limiter on it. Is this something you can change or turn off? I found out about it the hard way, not a good thing.

Like 140 or 145 - no idea why that doesn’t seem right to me.
Definitely not right.. I’ve been 165 easily and 180+ on the dyno

Maybe its different with the autos, but I was able to wind 5th gear out to 7800, shift into 6th and let off about 2 seconds later...was more concentrated on watching rpm rather than mph, but pretty sure I was way past 160mph.

Was also able the dyno the car to max whipple tune red line 7800 rpm on last dyno, which equates out to over 160. No fuses pulled with advace Trac off.

Ok thanks - I sent them an email about it and hopefully they get back after the weekend. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I`ve just asked whipple about the same thing, live an hour from the german autobahn so no need for a limiter. They replied there are no limiter in their tune.

I looked at my Whipple flare file and it’s description says 155 limited. I sent Whipple a screen shot - First world problems ya know? I hate it when the one mod I do to my car for power won’t let it go 180 mph without changing a software value ya know?
Lol

Convertible speed limit?

Ford may limit it to 155 since the indemnity insurance on enabling a convertible to attempt >155 may be cost prohibitive.

Or maybe not....

Likely several hundred pounds lift on the vert at 155 and 1000+ by 180 if the top hasnt already been sucked off the car.

Where in Texas can you run a vert stang faster than 155 without an 6 point?

This is a really late update but Whipple calibration did not have a speed limit. They said it won't shift into 6th gear under WOT conditions because it's too hard on the tranmission and is designed that way. You'd have to let off and then get back on it - I haven't tried it to confirm but that's what they told me.

Rolling start races and 1/2 mile and 1 mile events all exceed 155, plenty of those events in TX and the surrounding area.

I’ve hit at least 155 in 5th with an mt82 and 3.73s so there’s definitely not an issue with 140+. I wasn’t willing or brave enough to continue trying to accelerate in 6th, especially given the road conditions.

So you were redlining at 140 in 5th gear with it floored before?

I had thought that there was no way to turn off the limited... just move it up high enough to the point where you could not reach it at terminal velocity?
