If you are catless you need to have the rear O2 sensor switched off to prevent a check engine light. This is an automatic emissions failure. You can use a non-fouler to trick the sensor and a tune with the sensor on, but both options are technically illegal. If all you are doing is installing a downpipe you should be able to swap back to the stock cat fairly easily(not like headers on a Coyote).

taking the CEL off doesn't do anything...you will still fail emissions. Downpipe is 45 min job...just switch it back

Aftermarket catted would put you in the same situation. Only stock cats works with an emission-friendly tune. Otherwise you would need to trick the O2 sensor with a non-fouler just like if you were catless.

Catted smells better, but still not perfect. Aftermarket high-flow cats are metallic and just can't offer the same efficiency as OEM ceramic 3-way cats.
