S8 Audi tried to bait me

Coming home from work on the outskirts of town, an Audi pulls up beside me. I usually don't pay attention to the many clowns that want to challenge me at a light as I have had minivans, V6 Camrys, all types of SUV's rev on me. Light turn greens, he takes off and I see this badge that says S8 and another that said V8T. I don't follow all the specs on luxo barges so had no idea what engine was in it-but it sure sounded crappy going by. I know Audis with any power have the quattro awd system. 2nd light-he does it again.

I am like what is up with this jerk? Maybe he wants to brag to his friends that he beat a Mustang. I ignored him again. One last light before I turn off for home-he snoozes at the light. I take off and accelerate to the posted 35 mph limit. About 10 secs. later he blows by at full throttle. So I laugh to myself as he disappears in the distance just as I am about to turn off.

Looking up the specs of the car this morning I see:

C/D TEST RESULTS FOR:
2016 Audi S8 Plus 605 hp
Zero to 60 mph: 3.3 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 7.8 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 13.7 sec
Zero to 150 mph: 20.0 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 4.3 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 1.9 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 2.1 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 11.6 sec @ 121 mph
Top speed (mfr's claim): 190 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 15

Yikes! Had no idea a boat that size could go that fast

New Audi's are really fast. Even a stock A4 2.0t does 0-60 in 5.4 seconds and gets 31 mpg. Audi is making their new cars lighter and more powerful. APR also provides really good aftermarket for them. Even with just a tune on those turbo cars, things can get really interesting!

Not the S badge but RS are really fast. S not the S line adds little bit more power but still not up there as the RS.

Last fall I had an Audi RS5 in the lane to the right of me, and I KNEW he wanted to get ahead of me into my lane once the light turned green - sometimes you just know.

Anyway, I forgot how powerful the new RS5's are...combine his factory 3.8s 0-60, plus the near freezing ambient temps which meant I had very little first gear traction...needless to say he got in front of me like he wanted lol. Jerk.

Lots of sleeper Mercedes out there, too The CLA45 AMG is a 2.0 turbo 4 that does 0-60 in 4.2. Then there's the V8s.

0-60 under 5 seconds is a crowded place.

It is at that. That is why I just listen to the exhaust or music and let the world go by. Bait me not you will.

I'd love an Audi try me on an open road just to see how fast they are...in mexico of course.

Lots of people out there cross-shop between cars. It seems that a lot of these guys will get a Camaro SS or Mustang GT or SRT Chally for a while and then go back to their Audi or BMW etc. It is best not to underestimate any of them. Because while we might not know what they have, they know full well what they're up against. All they have to look for is a GT, SS, or SRT badge. And 90% of the time I don't know what they are...S-this, T-that, CK-stuff, all sorts of things. Just from being in dealerships I see sedans and coupes from Mercedes and BMW and I'm thinking these cars are luxury cars that might do a mid-13. Then I look them up and see they are twin turbo V8s with over 500 hp and run low 12s, high 11s, etc. All while offering all kinds of options that I never even heard about. Better be careful out there...
