You're better off trying to sell privately. I would start with a carmax appraisal and go from there if you want to trade in. In my experience carmax gives more.

DO NOT TRADE IN.
Sell it privately.
Check CARMAX
Check Beepi
Check Vroom

You can outright sell your car to each of them.
They give much more than any dealer.

Trading in is pissing money away.

bruh never had carmax beat any trade I've ever done brah. they always so far off dealer trade and kbb it's not even funny.

in all seriousness carmax can eat it. also selling privately is a pain in the ass but that's because I don't let other people drive my car except for my Dad. I'd take the loss on a trade just to not have to deal with other people test driving. Just me though. Definitely would be screening and making copy of licenses if I ever did.

What car did you trade in? My friend who works at carmax said that they give way more money for economy cars than sports cars

Unless carmax gets cars from auction, stealerships are the king of lowballing. I sold my '13 with 25k miles for 24k private party sale, (Craigslist) last month. Before that a stealership offered me 15k, said they get mustangs at auction all the time.
