What do YOU use to space the rear plate from the bumper? I already have some lines at the bottom area from the plate slapping away. I used some double sided 3M all-weather tape on the 4 corners and along the top/bottom, then peeled the side facing me, cut out microfiber cloth pieces to fit over it, and trimmed it so it doesn't stick out. Only thing is I feel that the cloth will hold moisture and contaminants though.

Inb4: "you're over thinking it, just superglue the plate to the car".

Found this below thread and thinking to just use the little felt pads used for chair legs. Looking to hear experiences.

I have a cheap walmart rubber frame that goes around the edge of the plate.

some foam tap that's stick on 1 side and maybe 1/8" thick. Nothing touches the paint

Lightning posted this pic as a fix. The bumpers look like the same style that came with a bug shield I put on another car to keep it from rubbing the paint.
It's a terrible pic but this is helps keep the plate off the paint and I wouldn't use any kind of felt as it may hold water;)

I also used foam backed tape I had around. No issues, works fine.

Only on the bottom, the top is fine and any hardware store will have them. I cleaned with alcohol pads first then installed and have held up ever since :D

I stuck felt furniture pads to the back of my plate.

I've considered drilling more holes for a 4 screw install. The plate could definitely be more secure than it is...

Thanks man. Are they squishy/soft or as hard as plastic? What are they called?

I just took my plate and slightly bent it upwards so it doesn't touch the bumper. I'll take a picture when I get home.

I always use that soft cell door sealing foam around my tags. Keeps it from making any noise or scratching the paint.

I use Ford paint called Shadow Black behind the rear plate.
Seems to work just fine.

This stuff it's all of $3.99 at Ace Hardware for a whole 17 foot roll. Sticky one one side and very soft compressing behind the plate and gives a good barrier. 3/16" is plenty of barrier. Just need about 1 inch of tape at each corned of the plate.

Have enough to redo it every few months if it gets dirty nasty from wet etc. I can't say I've ever redone mine though
