50th anniversary Mustang marketing campaign has begun

For more than 20 years, Ford's Special Vehicle Team, better known among fans as SVT has been building some of the fastest Mustangs of all time. From experimental one-offs like 10-liter Boss and the ethanol-fueled Super Stallion to the world's most powerful production V8 in the current Shelby GT500, the engineers at SVT know how to make a pony gallop.

At the 2013 E3 video game convention, Dreamworks studio, Electronic Arts and Ford announced a film adaptation of the Need for Speed video game series. Need for Speed hits the big screen on March 14, 2014 with star Aaron Paul driving a custom 2014 Ford Mustang GT.

OPI Products Inc., a subsidiary of COTY Inc., and Ford Motor Company today announced a unique collaboration featuring the iconic Ford Mustang. The popular pony car – celebrating its 50th anniversary in April – will serve as the inspiration for a line of OPI limited-edition nail lacquers that will launch internationally in July.

“OPI is thrilled to partner with one of the world’s top automotive companies in celebrating 50 years of Ford Mustang,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI co-founder and executive vice president. “For women, cars and nail lacquer offer a way to express personality. This new collection will deliver elements of sophistication, luxury, power and style fitting for both OPI and Mustang consumers.”

The collection’s hero shade, Race Red, is a tribute to one of Mustang’s most iconic colors.

“Ford Mustang inspires passion like no other car, and we are excited to be working with OPI on an exclusive collection that captures the spirit of our iconic car,” said Melanie Banker, Mustang marketing manager. “There is no better way to express Mustang’s bold personality and the excitement it creates than through color.”

Celebrating an Icon

It all began in 1978 with a 2.3-liter Mustang II. Today, Mike Berardi owns 43 Mustangs including three Indianapolis 500 pace cars, one of 500 1966 Shelby GT350H fastbacks, a 2012 Boss 302 and a 2013 Shelby GT500 and drives all of them.
