I honestly don't think they give a damn about the horsepower a camaro makes. My guess would be a low end one and them using high compression to improve efficiency. 450hp

460 is a reasonable guess, but I just don't think they care. And all of y'all thinking this thing will have 420+ tq, you're out of your mind

DI will allow you to run a leaner AFR plus additional timing over a PI setup. There will be gains across the curve, and I would NOT be surprised to see a much nicer TQ curve down low. The higher redline likely means it will go to the GT350 IM/TB, those additional revs are probably worth 5-10hp increase at peak alone.

All we can do is speculate at this point. Cam profiles, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, heads, etc are unknowns at this time. All of those things will play a much larger role in hp and tq then simply adding DI. I believe this gen of motor will be much more in line with the F-150 version and when the S650 launches you will see a "hotter" version for the mustang.

The Camaro gained 29 HP and 35 TQ from DI. I'd say since the 5.0 flows better than a a pushrod engine we'll see at least 30 HP but since there's less cubes to push I'll guess 25-30 TQ.

So 470HP 425TQ. That leaves plenty of room for them to bump it to 500/440 for 2021. I'd wait for the 2021 but I been waiting since 2014 when we found out the 2015 Mustang basically had a carryover drivetrain.
It's all what Ford wants to do.

The Coyote is a superior design to the LT1 and should be around 470 HP with plenty of headroom after DI/PI.

The OHC design gives more room with finer ignition control.

This is an engine that's been around a while now. I am thinking they have an updated design in the works for the s650.

And they can always use the 5.2 block if more is needed.

Zero reason why the 5.0 can't beat the LT1 with room to grow thereafter.

Is it true? Did Ford hide the 2018 GT and GT500 horsepower numbers in recently released 2018 Mustang media videos?

If this ends up being true...it would be amusing.

Looks like Ford was having fun with the Speedometer footage "1964.5" for the miles, "289" for miles to empty.
Indicated gear "4", Speed "55" (455 hp).

I am very surprised to see so many predict such low power increases for the 2018 GT Mustang. I don't think Ford is trying to keep up with the Camaro power numbers. I think Ford is trying to let the World know they are building a serious Grand Touring car that will outrun the Camaro SS. Ford could have had great horsepower gains by just going to DI and a new tune, but they chose to also increase the compression ratio on the 5.0 liter engine. Ford is proving that there is a new wave of interest in performance at Ford Motor Company. I am thinking the 2018 Mustang GT will have 480 horsepower.

I'm guessing that they're going to have the GT350 intake, TB, and CAI now. The power from that, plus the increase from 11:1 to 12:1 compression should bump the GT to the advertised 7500RPM redline and bring power into the 470-480 range with more low end power than before. I voted 475 since it's right in the middle of my prediction. Think of it this way, the FP power pack 3 (which is what I think they're adding) is advertised to add 37hp. That alone is 472hp. Add a point of compression to boot with DI to cool the cylinders, and I don't think 480 is a crazy guess.

If Ford wants to match the Camaro's power to weight ratio then based on a 75 to 100 lb weight difference, an extra 10 to 15 hp is needed. That's why I'm expecting 465 to 470 hp. I also think that Ford will want to maintain a significant power difference between the GT and GT350, so any more than 475 seems really unlikely to me.

There have been hints that the GT350 will get a power bump in the future and when that happens I can seen the 5.0 getting another 10-15 hp bump.

PP3 makes 475HP now on the current Coyote with Ford tune.

If the new car has PP3 default then it will be higher than 475, it would be 480HP minimum and that would be Ford leaving power on the table on purpose as even a conservative map on the new engine with PP3 would be 500HP and would truly be capable of more like 520-530HP.

some of you are delusional with your guesses lol, since when has Ford ever cared about matching Chevy power for power with the GT model? its all about sales for them sadly, be lucky to see much more than 450, ha leave it to Ford it will some weird number like 452-453

Just for the sake of discussion with regard to an increased redline (7400), which is 650rpm higher than the current.

If the power band has also extend peak HP out 650rpm, occuring at 7150 and they're able to produce the same amount of torque at peak HP (351 ft/lbs) that was produced at peak HP on the 2015-17 Coyote, then peak HP on the 2018 would be 478hp.

Just having fun speculating based on a shift in the power band...

Keep in mind that they really highlighted more *torque*..which the Coyote really needs.

It's better to have 455 HP and 425 TQ (just a spitball guess) than to have 475 HP but only 410 TQ.
