Could someone tell me about claiming diminished value and why it is important?

My 2015 V-6 ran 31 MPG/HWY right out of the gate. I am still getting 31 MPG. I run 67 mph on a hilly four-lane; always using 87 octane, 10% Chevron ethanol; with 32 lbs tire pressure. I am now at 4,000 miles. Great car , daily driver, better than expected mileage and performance.

My Ruby Red V-6 was flawless! Delivery date was 11/13/2014.

I plan to do the same. I have a Ruby Red 2015 and plan to go with a premium Redline-look, leather upgrade when the cloth seats start showing wear, especially on the outboard driver's side bolster. My dealer knows an excellent auto upholsterer in my area.
