  1. 2017 CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 VS. 2017 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT350R: THE FOREVER WAR

I'm with you Norm for my "toys". Minimalist, simple, NA, machine-like is what I want to drive at the track. It's why I'll stick with my Z28 (we sold the 302R) and have no interest in owning the new ZL1 1LE. But I would take one out for a drive though.
  2. Trakk Tape: Who Has Used It?

It works great. As others have said, be sure the leading edge is flush with the body panel. Here you can see the dirt it will pick up when the tape starts to lift (on the rear gills).
  3. Mustang GT4.R vs Camaro (ZL1 1LE)GT4.R

Having campaigned cars in Rolex and PWC, I'm guessing the PWC BOP committee was going to be heavy handed with the cars absent certification. No reason to run a race you have no chance of winning or at least be competitive. Conversely, I heard IMSA was generous and let the Ford's...
  4. Mustang GT4.R vs Camaro (ZL1 1LE)GT4.R

The Mustangs running in the race haven't been homologated yet. Ford says they are close to what the final car will look like. Most competitors felt Ford would run away with it.
  5. ZL1 1LE

I think you're right. The '14/'15 Z28 scratched the track junkie's itch. Not sure the ZL1 1LE will do the same. FI is a non-starter for a lot of us.
  6. GT350s Are Hitting Dealer Lots!!!

The early Z28 buyers faced this same issue from GM. Produced in March and April and most didn't show up till June or later w/o any explanations or info. It gets frustrating when buying expensive cars and you can't get any answers.
  7. Hood Lifting At High Speeds

Has anyone seen the youtube in Mexico with a SC 5.0 running the #drivermod Viper? Not concerned about winners/losers, but concerned that the video shows the hood lifting away from the quarterpanels at around 120 mph. Might upset the aero when on a road track.
  8. GT350R-C is Going to be at Watkins Glen!

Track officials get a ton of real time info and make split decisions. They get most of them right. But not all of them. It's always safety first with a strong desire to keep the fans/teams/tv satisfied. Drivers usually want to go, no matter what. Last year at Mid Ohio I made the call to...
  9. 2017 Ford Mustang will outperform Chevy Camaro in every way

Can't help you with that question as we only ran the Camaros at OEM wheelbase, engine location, etc.
  10. 2017 Ford Mustang will outperform Chevy Camaro in every way

The pic of the Camaros is from Sears Point in August 2011. My brother took the pic. Those Camaro's were race prepped by Riley Technologies in the fall of 2009 from off-the-showroom-floor SS Camaro's. So no, those are the original wheelbase specs. We campaigned them in the Continental Series in...
  11. 2017 Ford Mustang will outperform Chevy Camaro in every way

Those Camaro's were running in PWC during 2011. So no, we were running factory wb. Heavily restricted LS3.
  12. 2017 Ford Mustang will outperform Chevy Camaro in every way

I'll leave the bench racing/keyboard combat to others. But going to the track to drive my cars/watch Alec drive our race cars/watch racing in general leaves me with a grin that takes days to disappear from my face. I am glad there are many manufacturers making great cars today. Heck, I grin...
  13. 2015 GTPP vs. Z28 vs. Hellcat

This comparison (like most mag pieces) is pretty useless. But 3 seconds on a short track is an eternity. And no one mentions the repeatability factor. Many cars can do a fast hero lap. But most can't do them all day, which is what we do when we track cars. The GT500 and ZL1 can do fast...
  14. GT350 vs. Z/28

And when one shows up, the Z28 will be out of production.
  15. GT350 vs. Z/28

Last I heard, all of the "third parties" helping Ford develop the new chassis for racing were running behind schedule. Sebring would be ahead of the last estimate I heard, but not completely unrealistic.
  16. GT350 Mustang Pricing [Update: rumored $52,995 starting price]

There were and are plenty of Z28's available for MSRP or less. When I got mine last spring, I also got the $2000 customer cash back from Chevy making it $73k. I think the price vs content is fair. A better argument is that perhaps Chevy should have used lesser components (ie no CCB's) and...
  17. Dry Sump?

I, personally, am disappointed they didn't go with a dry sump oiling system. When I heard they lowered the front hood line, I was hoping they were also able to lower the cars CG by lowering the motor and installing a dry sump. Ford certainly ran their numbers regarding how many people will truly...
  18. Dry Sump?

The LS7 in the Z06 and Z28 has what you would describe as a bare minimum type of dry sump oiling system. There is a single scavenge and single pressure pump. The remote oil tank does help prevent starving the pressure pump during high g turns. But most people consider a true high performance dry...
  19. Dry Sump?

Ford Racing doesn't install one with the Boss 302R either. But just about every serious competitor installs one. We did after having oil foaming and other issues.
  20. GT350 Horsepower

Sticking with steel rotors/Brembos and making the Track Pack and Tech Pack as options might help keep it "affordable" (everyone's definition of that varies). But all that aluminum sheet metal, wheels and tires and FPC motor keeps it out of those wanting a $50k base. So I'll stick with my...
