You are right and I should have realized this because I live in Albuquerque where the gas is one or two octane less than at sea level (86 octane regular and 91 premium).
Higher octane gas only becomes an issue when approaching wide open throttle. At partial throttle the engine does not approach the maximum compression ratio and pre-ignition is not likely.
If you want to obtain 93 octane you can mix 54% 87 octane with 46% 100 octane. All refiners refine only two octane grades, one high and one low and then mix them in proportion to obtain the various octane grades.
I think the cap less fuel fill is one of Ford's best innovations in recent years. No taking the cap on and off and possibly hit the fender and dripping gas.
Another advantage of OHC engines is that with multiple intake and exhaust valves the geometry of the head can be better optimized for both volumetrically efficient and position of the spark plug.
The original definition of a muscle car in the 60's was an intermediate size car (Chevelle, Fairlane, Coronet) with a big V8. The original pony cars were based on he small car chassis (Chevy II, Falcon, Dart) with smaller V8 engines and some attempt at improved handling and braking. On this...
I had a stone impact on the windshield of my Porsche leave a star fracture about 1.5 inch in diameter. As soon as I noticed the fracture I had a windshield repair come out and try to fix it. They injected cement into the fracture and although it was still slightly noticeable, the fracture has...
I currently own a 2010 Cayman S and a 2015 GT with PP. The performance specs on the cars are very close. In driving both cars over the same roads I would give the edge to the Mustang in terms of steering and brake feel. The body stiffness is similar. In terms of fit and finish the Cayman is far...
Comparing my 2008 Bullitt s197 to my 2015 GT s550, the fit of the sheet metal is not quite as good on the s550. I think this partly a result of the sharp creases on the s550 providing reference points that require sub millimeter tolerances. The interior fit and finish is vastly improved on the s550.
I noticed on the invoice for my car the shipping weight was listed as 3606 pounds. My car is a base GT with the performance pack as the only option.
Car and Driver lists the curb weight of the GT they tested as 3810 pounds. The CD test car was a premium with many options I do not have on my...
