One more data point for the blowup occurring very early in the life of the engine. I think the sample by now is big enough to get quite comfortable that a 10k+ mile engine is almost sure to be safe. So the answer to people's worries is very easy: drive the piss out of that b-word, get to at...
If it was owner negligence, surely the owner now has learned the lesson? Still don't see the stigma with a new engine.
And who would you trust to do the engine swap more than a dealer tech who works on Ford V8s all day long and who's been trained on that specific engine?
Sorry, I don't get it...
That, I don't understand. Why would people disdain a brand new factory engine. The opposite should be true. In the Porsche world, where early GT3s were catching fire due to bad engines ,Porsche replaced them and cars with new engines aren't looked down at all, I believe.
Separately, selling on...
Are you sure you haven't found a bad road with horrible crowning, like the fourth world-grade middle lane of I95 north of NY? That's the only road where my 16 GT350 tramlines a bit. It's such a ghetto road that even my wife's explorer tramlines a bit. Everywhere else the steering has been...
Well, what do you know. The mighty Porsche GT3, with the brand new-ish upgraded and simplified four-point-oh aspirated flat six is... experiencing blown engines due to oil pump failure. Now where did I hear about that before. Happens to the best and brightest! And that's a $150k plus options...

Love this thread, but for me, 4. is a downer. I believe there's some truth to the saying "it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow". On curvy country roads at 60mph, you can hear the car yawning as it's about to fall asleep. It doesn't break a sweat. You half expect it to talk...
Uhm, no. If a car maker can't make a 100hp per liter aspirated engine in 2018, they should shut down operations. BMW was doing 90+ inline sixes 25 years ago. Honda made a 2 liter four with 240hp almost 20 years ago. Porsche had a 90hp per liter 2.7 flat 6 forty-five years ago. I haven't even...
I'm not a lawyer, but I would speculate that if this was brought to the attention of the NHTSA as a safety matter (if you lose the engine on a busy interstate at 65mph it can get messy, I think?), and NHTSA demanded that Ford respond, then either the real numbers and reasons would be publicly...
I stumbled on a nice article about the legendary F1 driver Gilles Villeneuve and his love for Mustangs and Fords in general.
I hope you enjoy it before it gets buried in some faraway off topic section...
It'll be a supercharged engine. Supercharged engines don't make for good track cars. Heat soak and stuff. Even the mighty Z06 has had problems. So it will be a super fun car I'm sure but won't be the same or better for track duty, for sure, and it won't sound as awesome as an aspirated flat crank.
If they do tank in price it'll be amazing. I can dream of my five year old getting her license one day and asking if she can have a ratty, crappy cheapo high mileage off-brand gt350 as her first car. "That's my girl", I would say to her.
A couple of more serious thoughts:
- the engine...
