Day 19 Esperance to Denmark 530km
Due to the shorter leg today it was a great opportunity to have a sleep-in though the body clock was still working on SA/Daylight savings mode so I still managed to wake up at dark o clock. Had a nice relaxed morning catching up on emails and social media...
Day 18 Ceduna to Esperance 1405km
Up at 430 this morning to get on the road early- there is a good spot about two hours west of Ceduna for taking sunrise pics. No roos on the road which made life easier though top speed was 80kmph.
A little further down the track the highway is just...
My whole intent of this trip was purely for the driving experience - not as much emphasis on nice locations or pictureqe drives - I dont feel that driving down the coastal highways are as challenging on the car as these inland routes. I wanted to put this car to the test with varying road...
Day 17 Broken Hill to Ceduna 887km
Today was a sleep in till 6am - and I must say I slept in the best bed that Ive had in the past couple of weeks. Went to sleep at 1030 and it was still 37 degrees and woke up to a chilly 24 - hadn't seen that in the last few weeks. Driving through Broken Hill...
Day 16 Charlaville to Broken Hill 1071km
Nice early start ay 615am - my new friend next door appeared as i started up the mustang to hear the car with auto choke going - i apologised beforehand to let them know that it there was going to be some noise lol.
Id spent the whole trip rejoicing with...
Day 15 Longreach to Charleville 515km
Was a sleep-in this morning - at 8am the Hotel owner Jane brought out her ruby red stang for some photo shots with the yellow terror.
After the shoot it was a quick breakfast in town in the local bakery then off to the Longreach Aviation museum for a...
Occasionally i get a whiff of cooked insect but nothing too intense- daily removal might be the trick. I was expecting cooked finch when one went under but didnt come out the back lol
All grasshoppers - when i pulled up at motel there was a little collection of hopper- bits on the driveway in front of the car when i came back out - these critters seem to be all legs, wings and goop thats sticks like glue. Each little birdie that got Stanged was converted into a cloud burst...
Day 14 Townsville to Longreach 775km
Well today marks the end of my second week of travelling - after a nice couple of relaxing driving free days it was back on the road at 6am this morning. First leg was to backtrack back to Hughenden via the Flinders highway- nice and uneventful with...
Wow I hadnt realised this thread was getting outside interest - though i did mention it on Ford AU FB page . Got to admit I'm a fan of the top end, if Ford are willing to loan me an RS Id do another different roadtrip:headbang:
Thanks for the kind words - back on the road tomorrow.
DAY 12 Around Townsville
This will be my home for the next couple of nights to recharge before I start the trek towards Longreach and to the South East.
First point of order of the day was to find a car wash so the pony could have a decent clean down and vacuum. Bit of a soak and nearly all...
Day 11 MT Isa to Townsville 904km
Left Mt Isa after a decent breakfast cooked at my accommodation - pretty much a FIFO accommodation setup with decent rooms at a good price. The first 100 or so kilometers is a nice winding road with great views of the surrounding hills, though getting caught...
Only bit that might be crazy is the non spare tyre but Im very pedantic with tyre pressures and care - otherwise this car is perfect for pushing out long distances. Wear and tear on the exterior has been negligble - puting on a protective coating has helped no end.
Ive done alot of this type...
