  1. Issues from long term E85 use?

I have no benefit from promoting the oil industry. What is know, is that ethanol is in the early life stages of production, where as gasoline's refinement process has been refined for over one hundred years. The efficiency at which the oil giant's have been able to refine gasoline is remarkable...
  2. What brand oil are you using?

Amsoil is superior to what? You mean group IV, no levels in oil. There are GIII oils that stomp on Amsoil, Redline, Motul, Joe Gibbs, Bran Penn, and so many more to name that cost half their price. Gotta know what you're doing with oil, it's more than just a "lubricant".

The FTIR allows you to see EGRed fuel residuals and how the filter is handling them.
  4. Another engine oil thread ... What do you use?

No, there are other ways to determine if the filter is working. Particle count can have its own issues including the machine making false reads due to the dark color of the oil. I ran particle counts, quantifiers and analytical ferrographies on his samples. I was including PC or PQ when I was...

Ugh, I've had customers buy used oil from Wal-Mart. WIX XP and he changes them every 4,000 miles. I don't get why they don't invert these filters, imagine how nice being able to change your filter in a snap and not have to change the oil. When I saw the 86 design, I loved it. On my RC-F we have...

The WIX performs much better than its paper stat claims. It's why I like UOA, often times the filters don't perform to their paper stats. Sounds like a good amount of offering for these filters! I recommend changing the filters if capable as these can drastically extend the oil life without...

I don't know of every Ford filter for sale, so Mustang Guy may have better filter suggestions. Overall though the XP is super hard to beat and too many vehicles from GT R's, Prii, etc have responded very well to it. Only UOA can really determine the best filter, the XP is a good starting place...
  8. Another engine oil thread ... What do you use?

Often times I hear this question. It is best answered with a easy answer. If you care about nothing else(wear, etc) and only cared about fuel economy, then the answer is easy. The RLI over the Mobil 1, provided a 7% fuel economy gain in my 5.0L RC F engine(2UR-GSE) which is similar in many ways...

Mustang guy, do you have the filtration data? I'd be more interested in the filter rating for particle size. I've seen similar in GT-R's problem is the filter usually goes up to 50-60 microns. But if it's filtering the same particles with a higher bypass valve setting, all the more for it.

What's the difference on the Ford racing filter? If there's different bypass valves, you might want to strongly consider not using it for daily driving since you would allow more wear during easy driving. Wish these engines were like the "86". Toyota was smart putting the filter inverted on...

For clarification, the 40 dyno pulls using different combos of things were done within a temperature and humidity controlled environment. One of the best dyno facilities in the US. Air intake temps measured the same, block temps and all other variables were the same.

I pulled 6whp and 4lbs. Switching from Amsoil to BioSyn. The more interesting part was how much smoother the dyno line graphed on the BioSyn.

Fuel quality is 40% of the issue. Oil quality is 40%. Long proven with break downs on Audi 4.2L using "Audi approved" oil and then using non approved Audi oil. Audi oil gunked up the engine while the non approved didn't. Also the whole spec thing is BS. More about getting $$$$ then good criteria.

Lost, have you seen the valve deposits on modern cars? Many failures from all makes and models, just most people don't realize they're oil related and not "lubrication" related.
  15. Another engine oil thread ... What do you use?

Oh well that I completely agree with! The Oil + Fuel can create a post combustion cleanse that dissolves the residuals without leaving deposits. The two biggest factors we can control. Plus using a good filtration system to allow clean burn. In the future as EV begin to take over, a push for...

"Shell fuels advises that use of a quality gasoline can indirectly reduce valve gunk deposits, even in a DI engine where that fuel is never exposed to the intake valves. The gist? A quality fuel keeps other engine components, like fuel injectors, cleaner, supporting a cleaner combustion process...

Wait...... JP: Do all engines suffer from valve gunk over time? GB: All engines will accumulate some build-up, but the amount is dependent upon a wide variety of factors, including the geometry of the engine, the type of engine oil used, and operating conditions including engine load and drive...

But agreed gas is much better but no where near where it should be. Unregulated field that needs regulation as higher octane fuels would greatly help.

Misread your post! I'm in a jeep in the Mojave right now so everything is bumpy on my little iPhone. Oil has a huge component on right seal, viscosity index, additives, base stocks. For example, esters cling to metal, which is why you see oils like Motul use ester based base oils. This greatly...
