That's not technically the only reason it works, it actually loads the song in a temp cache so there are no interruptions before the song is over. Which is why you can listen to the end of a song even after your phone loses a signal.

I'm no engineer so take this for what it's worth, but... I would guess this is a Mustang problem, like I said they both have it (in Fords) and neither of them lose signal (that I have seen, I can ask and get a definitive answer to report back) anywhere.
